Facial mal seizures, have you heard of them?

I was doing some research yesterday after my dog had a second episode of facial tics, I was wondering what was happening to him. When I read the information about facial mal seizures, I realized that this was what he was having. It's not a serious condition, but it does occur in older dogs, and my dog is getting close to 11 years old. I'll have to keep watching him, hoping I don't have to take him to the vet about this. It's kind of scary to see it, but these episodes don't last very long and don't seem to bother him much.

Mal seizures only happen to humans, i am not sure if dogs will have this too. Are you really sure it was seizure? Maybe you should consult your vet because who knows your dog might be having rabies now. That is scary!

Definitely not rabies as he hasn't had contact with any other dogs, wild animals or cats with it. I looked it up yesterday and found out that yes they can have these seizures. They only affect the face, the muzzle area, and it's one sided. Seizures last 10 seconds to less than a minute.

Oh that is so informative! I should watch my dog if she had that, I have an old dog, too. You mean in the "muscle" area? In humans, we immmediately give a small dose of Valium to patients in seizure hahah. I don't know if it is ok with dogs, too..hahah

I don't know the disease. Maybe you should find out why the episode broke out, if you can't find the reason, I suggest you should bring your dog to the vet. I figure your dog must feel very painful when it break out. My dog is also 11 years old. I hope he will not catch any disease. If you can't help him,go to see the vet. Hope your dog will soon be recovered.
