Debt Ceiling??

You should freak out if you are an American, the debt U.S government accumulated over the years are worrisome and freaking big, the young generation will be asked to pay for their forebear indiscriminate spending. That should be enough to reduce into long term poverty.

You are witnessing something called political brinkmanship. there are different groups of politicians wanting different results, and they are all holding out for the one they favour. my guess is it will be sorted out at the last minute but who will win is an interesting question. boehner lost because he conceded too much to the tea party. and therefore lost support amongst the more moderate politicians. and my guess is that a compromise solution between those who aren't tea party polticians will now be reached. just watch and learn, but don't let it scare you, politicians are all drama queens, otherwise they would have a nice ordinary job.
