Why do some women stopped wearing skirts?

Why do some women stopped wearing skirts? Except when it's a school or office uniform, gone are the days when we saw women wear skirts in public places like streets, churches, malls, or wet markets.
Nowadays, we see women wearing mostly jeans, of all sizes and shades, as they roam around everywhere doing their own business. In my own wardrobe, i do have a few skirts. Eventually, i also stopped wearing them. As if my actions were influenced by my silent observation of other women not wearing them either.
How about you, if you're a girl or woman, what made you stop wearing skirts?

Hi,
I do not know exactly what the real reason, obviously my wife was not wearing a skirt again. All had been discarded.

Hi nakula2009,
Yes, women have choices. It reflects on the type of clothing they wear. If they are comfortable and happy with it, they wear it. Thanks.

Hi jazzyrae,
Thanks for the comment. You're right, wearing any type of clothes also depend on our moods. If we're happy with our dress, skirt, or pants then go ahead and wear it. It's important that we are happy and comfortable with it.

I have a couple of them but skirts have the happy knack of not hiding ones belly fat. My niece said the same thing to me when I asked her this question. Skirts indeed look graceful and I see them back in fashion.

Hi allknowing,
Thanks for the response. Yes, women look graceful in skirts; many look good in them.
Whether we are comfortable in skirts or jeans, we always have to decide what type of clothes makes us happy. Then, we should wear it.

I am more comfortable wearing jeans and shorts. I don't have a skirt in my wardrobe. I am not fond of wearing it even during my younger years. I am not comfortable wearing skirts. It seems that you must be always on the watch while wearing skirt. I am not free on my actions if I wear skirts, so why buy one, when I enjoy wearing jeans.

Hi xuyxuy,
Thanks for the response. We really have choices when it comes to wearing pants or skirts. You're right, comfort and freedom to move are reasons why women prefer jeans and shorts. Skirts limit our movements especially if we have to travel to a long distance. We are always watchful. We still need skirts and dresses for appropriate occasions.

Wearing skirts limit our movements. Since women are now doing more and more of what was then considered as a "man's job", we have to adjust.
With pants, we don't have to feel conscious every time we go up the stairs, get out of the car or if a large gust of wind blows by. Sometimes, its also just for vanity reasons like some women not liking their knees, hiding cellulites or thick thighs.

Hi sphiztic8,
Thanks. Yes, women nowadays are brave in entering men's jobs. We now have women pilots, women police officers, women engineers, and so on. In this kind of workplace pants is more comfortable to wear than skirts.
Comfort and ease in moving about are reasons for wearing the right kind of clothes.

Many women today act more like a man rather than there own self, but maybe we all have our own style. Like I don't like dresses and skirts as much as I like skinny jeans and capris. Now I don't like shorts as much as I like dresses and skirts. It all mixes together to who you want to be and what you want to represent yourself as in this world. Thanks for the post! It's very interesting.

Hi insperwriter,
Thanks for the response. Yes, i observe that also, girls acting like a boy or women acting like a man. For example, in music videos you will notice women wearing jeans and making dance moves like men do. Its part of being in a group, its like you 'belong', 'you're one of us'. That's the message. That's another reason for wearing pants or jeans.
Yes, the clothes that we wear, either jeans or skirts and dresses, represents who we are in this world.

I am one of those who are not wearing skirts, except during high school days that i have to wear my uniform. i just don't find skirts comfortable, unlike jeans that you can freely do things without being too conscious.

Hi midnightbliss,
You're right, the activities that we engage in sometimes influence us to wear jeans rather than skirts, because it gives us more comfort.

Whenever I wear skirts I get a lot more attention, so I prefer to wear pants. Plus, pants are much more comfortable and I don't have to worry about crossing my legs whenever I sit down.

Hi belonephobicgirl,
Yes, i observed that also. In riding public transport, for example. When skirts blow off and expose the legs, it gets a lot of attention. It's hard but we have to live with it anyway.

i don't wear skirts, or dresses much. i do like dresses more than skirts though, as they seem to look better on me.
all hope is not lost though, as even though i wear jeans more often than dresses, i have to confess, i buy more dresses than i buy trousers, as they are pretty, i just, unfortunately, don't wear them very often.

Hi francesca5,
We each have our own preferences when it comes to wearing clothes. Whether we like to wear dresses or skirts more often than jeans, or it's the other way around. In your case, you prefer to wear trousers more often but you keep a stack of pretty dresses on the side. That's a good investment if you plan to wear it at some later date or during occasions, it's not money wasted anyway.
