Avatar didn't give me depression

I read a lot of articles before to finally rental it, it didn't give me anything bad at all. I understand people got depressed because the world was too beautiful and they felt Earth is horrible, well do ACTIVISM, do something and people who get depressed because humans are bad can get out from that depression. Just to say we are evil doesn't change anything. And we can't say that about humanity, there are volunteers and activists that do all sort of heroism, that fight for human, animal rights and eco salvation without gaining any money, in fact there are people saving animals that are being mutilated and are in JAIL right now, for saving lives... I don't think humanity stinks when I know there are people like these Animal Liberation Front, eco activists, Sea Shepherd, volunteers in orphanages, hospitals, elderly houses...

I have to say I did cry when the tree was so needlessly destroyed, but I think the movie carried a positive and positive message, and (of course) had a happy ending, so I wouldn't think people would get depressed after watching it. If anything, as you say, it would probably motivate most people to go out and do some volunteer work or increase their own recycling/energy reduction activities in their daily lives.

Yeah. Hear hear. If a movie can really cause depression, it's a bloomin' great movie, crafted to perfection. Avatar isn't that great. It did get me thinking, but not enough to get me doing, though.

I think it's was a great ECO and ANIMAL message movie. When she kills the dogs to save him just because the spirits said so she says later that that's nothing to thank or to be happy as to kill animals is just sad. Yes, killing the tree was so awful. If we don't stop and each do our part, we'll really loose Earth.

I didn't really get depressed since I know that the world isn't just full of bad people... there are still good ones left, it's just that there are more bad news than good ones that we see on tv. it's never too late, I hope that when people see this movie, they can relate to it and realize what we realized..and maybe even change for the better.

Oh yes, I really hope it inspires people. We can begin from anything, to be the first one to smile without expecting to receive it back, to go Vegan and help the animals and the enviroment, to be an activist, to volunteer in a hospital, an orphanage or an elderly home, to rescue animals, to plant a tree, to recycle...many things.

Hi katie! This is the first time I encountered a movie review of Avatar like this. ^^ Frankly, I never liked that movie. Not because humans destroyed the Earth but because... I forgot already. That movie was a long time ago. I think I did not like the whole theme of the movie? It was rather dark and I expected for it to be more of an adventure, happy adventure. Anyway, I have to agree that there are indeed people who are concerned of the environment and the animals. Not all are evil. There are those who will do anything to protect and conserve earth. And I salute them all, too!

I try to do activism for thoose also. But are you talking about Avatar movie? It gave me depression because of my point of view: it idolized like a hero the silly foreign protagonist who came disturbing that beautifull place with militar ideas. I don't agree that indigenous people need foreign help to defend their ecosystem, this is just an eurocentric perception. It got me depressed that they still make that knid of "white people" propaganda movies...

Movies, like books and other pieces of art, are make to make you think and feel but not to give you a depression. At Avatar, two kinds of worlds were shown and to ways of relating with nature. The watcher may see it and forget it of may see it and think what kind of world is best. from the point of view of his values. I would not say that the movie shows that all human beings as bad per se; it shows that they have turned into people that are more interested in material things above anything else. A person, while watching Avatar, could think of all the last wars in the Middle East, where innocent people die so few can have more oil. Are human beings the "bad ones"? I don´t think so. They are all lambs taken to the slaughter house. The "bad ones" usually don´t place themselves in dangerous situations.

My husband and I saw this movie while we were on a cruise last year. While we liked the movie the chairs were really uncomfortable and there was a couple of times in the movie you thought the ending was near and it seemed to begin again. Not that we did not like the movie the seating in the cruise ship theater were really uncomfortable and we were both glad when the movie finally ended.
