Why do people still play Counter-strike?

How can they still play this old game? I see thousands of people online everyday on steam playing the game, I've played it for 10m and I really didn't like it. How can they play it when there are free games a lot better than cs?

The game has endless possibilities. And if you have not met a professional CS player, you won't be able to understand the depth, the game has and how much better you can be and have to be to play and enjoy the game to its complete potential.
10 months is not that enough a time to achieve that kind of level in the game. It require time, dedication and great understanding of the game. Strategies play a big role and it is so much fun to plan your moves with your friends so that you can beat the opponents. It is like you are actually heading for battle. I have not played the game for a long time, but it wasn't something I wanted to stop, but due to some circumstances I had to. It is incredible how incredibly well some people play this game and how much concentration you have to give to play flawlessly.
I do not think there are hardly any games which are better than this. It is one of the best there is, period.

Dude, you can do the exact same thing with most fps games like call of duty, battlefield or even Free to play games. But i've been thinking and my guess is that people play counter-strike because or they're PC can't handle other games, they don't know any other games (kids), or (more likely) everyone they know play the game, and the best thing about video gaming is playing it with your friends. I can't play a game for more than 1 week because I don't have anyone that I know to play it with me :( So that's probably it, it's a lot better to play as a team, with a mic planning strategies than playing with no strategy against people that I don't know from anywhere..

counter strike is a great game
every time you play it with your friends on lan or internet you will find every game different from each other and in that every round different...
playing with freinds, trying new stratergies its really exiting to play this game no matter how many times you played it...

IMO, it's simply because of it's playability. It has fast gameplay and a good game to play with a bunch of friends! There are even modifications that'll make the game experience even more fun. I just hate the time when those CS cheats came up.
Sometimes when we start to get bored with CS, we switch to classic Half-Life for a deathmatch mayhem^^
I'm not sure, but there is really something whenever you play classics even on a high-end PC and I enjoy it. How about you guys?

Counter strike is basically the mother of all FPS games.Most games you see these days are based on CS(and hipsters love them,although i do too).Mainly because most peoples computer arent able to run high end games like COD etc. so CS is a good alternative for some mindless FPS fun.LAN plays are also very popular among me and my friends.Despite the horrible graphics,there are many plus points to CS.For a change of visuals,try downloading skins like i do.Its a fun way to freshen up the game again.

I guess you're right :p One of the games that i've enjoyed the most was call of duty 1 because i had lot's of good friends there :p

Well it is calssic in its gender and the cs:s is with good graphics. I don't know how it is on steam because i don't pay for games - download them free , but the server where i paly it always full and it is really great fun to shooting your freinds . :D

in my opinion why everybody still play CS is nothing game like CS that has fanatics fans networking.
