Those not in US, how does the job process go?

For the US, we must have a background check done on us, and this can differ from state to state, I think for NC it may just be a check on our criminal records, to see if we have any and if so what, and then we must have a drug test done. The company we are employed with, or will be employed with, also has the right to "impromptly" give us a drug test to see if we are still "straight" so to speak. For other countries, how is this done? Do you need to have a background check done, or a drug test taken? are there any other screening processes? Some companies also contact our previous employers.

Here in Jamaica, their are a few jobs.but now some company are looking at the address, an if they hear bad comments about the community you come they don't employ you. An even in come company you might bring a application,an they place you an file.so if the manager have a friend he are she just call that friend for the job and put your application letter on hold. The job system is a mess here, and i hate it .it's very hard for some people to get a job because of their address. Most company contact previous employers, because they want to know your performance level when working are even work background.

That is discrimination! It shouldn't matter the community you come from, what should matter is you're work history and you're work performance! I am sorry to hear it's so bad over there in Jamaica, it seems like there's hardly any room for people to work at all!

I worked in Asia, and a medical check up was pretty much standard before we signed the job offer. Mostly it was for the company, to know that you didn't have any medical issues that their insurance will be hit after you've signed on. Of course it was under the guise of 'making sure that you're healthy enough' for the job.

Here, it depends on the industry. For most jobs, they check your references. If the job is in a position of trust, like a teacher, then there is a criminal record check. For police, there are also psychological tests and more extensive background checks. For banking jobs, there are sometimes credit checks. So it really depends what kind of job you are looking for.

It depends, some companies do contact previous employers especially the ones that is stated on your references. Usually here in my country, you'll have to submit all the NBI clearance, barangay clearance from local government then you will have your medical and dental exam. Of course, there is a lot of interview and panel interview and so you'll also have the written examination. After you pass every thing then you'll have your final interview. Then orientation will follow and you'll be give six months for observation on how well did you perform.
