I love to eat salads, cooked (steamed most of the time) and raw. Now I can only eat raw my own produce which is very meager because it´s Winter. I have lettuce of 2 kinds, arugule, kale and radishes.
It is important for my diet that I eat a salad a day (a big helping) but I have run out of new ideas that are in my diet. I have used oregano, fresh cheese, tomatoes (peeled and quite tasteless as compared to my own tmatoes last Summer), avocadoes (very expensive, as we are exporting most of them)and olives.
Do you have new ideas for salads. What kind of salads do you prefer? Do you mix raw salads with cooked ones? Share!

I sometimes slick up thin slices of apple or strawberry in some of my garden salads, they had a nice sweet taste. But oftentimes I use black pepper, some herbs, and cheese in my salads but I don't like dressings, so the herbs and cheese make up for the dressing. I'd like to experiement with fresh herbs like parsley and chives, they're really yummy :-)

That sound good, Masihi. I can add fresh cheese which I´m allowed to eat and apple and pear bits. I can´t eat berries though, but I grow my own prsley and chives.

when i make a salad i tend to look round the shop and put in whatever i feel like that day.
i sometimes use wild rice, or a red rice, the name of which i can't remember, in a salad, just for a bit of variety.
there are some vegetables that need to be cooked before you can eat them that are nice in a salad, like broad beans, or other beans or peas. but there are some that i couldn't eat, i don't fancy the idea of a broccoli salad. though there may well be a recipe out there somewhere.
i think you should just experiment and see what happens, just put together some ingedients that you fancy eating that day and see what happens.

hi marguicha!
i also eat a lot of salads. if its not salad, its fresh fruit.
over the weekend, i had a fruit bowl. it had grapes, apples, mangoes, and watermelon. i had it for lunch and dinner in the past two days. today, i had a salad. it had strawberries, mangoes, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, and steamed chicken and turkey. i prepared a garlic mayonnaise dressing for this one. i'll be having this salad for today and tomorrow. what's nice about the past two salads that i made was that both were made from organic fruits and vegetables. eating salad is healthy and i do believe that by using organic produce, it makes it healthier.
right now, i'm trying to learn how to prepare hot prawn salad. hopefully, i get to prepare it for next week.
cheers!!!

Try some fruit, and make your own dressing, canola oil, 1/2 C to vinigar 1/4 cup then add herbs, garlic, mustard, salt and pepper to taste. Mix and store in frig.
I like to add dry ginger and a little soy instead of salt. I will eat almost any type of cooked vegies to my lettuce and other greens. Also canned or cooked dry beans are a good protein. Coold, cooked pasta, use whole grain for more fiber
can be added. In fact you can throw in the kitchen sink and the frig and still end up with a good salad. Blessings

Spices are out, but I could cook some black beans to add a touch of colour.

Hi marguicha a lentil salad is good have you tried? mix cooked lentils with steamed broccoli, carrots, zucchinis, or any vegie you like and may be a hard boiled egg? and just use your favorite dressing! also I make a tropical rice salad/ with white rice or brown, I add some crushed/or pineapple pieces, some sultanas[ if you like] some chopped red capsicum, spanish onion, garlic powder[just a little] some chopped green shallots and coriander I usually dress this salad with mayo...which I make my self...but if you can't have mayo just use other dressing you like. Good luck and good eating I hope you enjoy it!

I´ll have to use about half of the ingrdients you suggest as the rest are not allowed. But I will surelly try to make a nice and different salad. I can make a dressing with olive oil, oregano, a bit of lemon juice and salt. I can also put vinegar instead of lemon juice and my vinegar is homemade.

I eat only raw salad. We are not living in the same part of the world, and I don't know if they grow in your country, but in winter I like to eat watercress and purslane salads. Watercress can be eaten in soups too ; it is a plant from the same family than arugula, but with a different taste.

I love watercress but I cannot eat any raw salad if I don´t grow it myself. I am only allowed to eat cooked salad while on chemo, except the rganic plants I grow at home.

I like that idea, Christine, except that I would cook my own veggies. I don´t like the taste of canned veggies.

Hello Marguicha. I think eating salad is a very healthy choice. I eat salad around five times a week or more. My favorite salad is cucumber, round lettuce, cress and spring onion. Sometimes I add beetroot to it. I like to put Brazil nuts on it and add some vinegary salad dressing on it. The other day I like a salad of baby carrots, cauliflower and green beans. I added some vinegary salad dressing to it. I eat raw salads and never cooked ones. It is a shame in winter imported food can be pricey.

I can eat cucumber because you peel it and boiled or steamed veggies. I´m also using carrots as yu can wash and pel them. I love their flavour.
I´m afraid I will only have to eat eaither boiled salads or washed and peeled raw salads. So raw cauliflower, which I like is out.

I´m at the "getting acostumed to be baldd" stage. I´m knitting at a great speed to have caps for my head. It is not only a question of beauty (although I do not overlook that), but it´s Winter now and I don´t have central heating in my house.

I don't think that I've ever had a cooked salad, but I can see why you can only eat things that are cooked right now. With that said, my favorite kinds of salads to eat are ones that are loaded with a lot of different vegetables. I love to have lettuce, onions, bell peppers, avocado, cheese, some ham and things like that in my salad. I will also often add some almonds to them because of the fact that they are good for you and also completely change the taste of the salad.

I can eat all raw veggies that can be peeled, such as tomatoes and avocados. I am not allowed to eat processed cheese because they do it with fungii. And I can´t at ham or fats in general as choloesterol levels rise with chemo.
But I am allowed to eat all of the raw greens from my own garden as I don´t use pesticides and only water them with drinking water. Still, I mustt give tham a last wash with cold boiled water.
I am mixing greens with potatoes, beets, corn kernels, carrots and green peas. They taste very nice and olive oil and oregano helps it.
