I have been watching several horror movies but none of the movies have been ingrained in my mind like the "Devil" movie aka The Night Chronicles: Devil from M. Night Shyamalan. I was really distubed by this movie even though the story just revolves around the individuals who got stuck in the elevator with the Devil, the atmosphere of the film and how it was actually played out gave it a more realistic feeling than any other horror films. After watching this movie, I had a brief trouble riding any elevator.
I also had this experience being stuck in an elevator once and my heart was pounding so fast, I thought that I'd collapse after remembering that movie until the woman with me on the elevator cried as well saying that she watched the "Devil" movie and she's afraid that it might happen to us while we're stuck on the elevator. The elevator got online after 15 minutes minutes and it really became awkward after that.
Do you have any similar experiences about a movie that you've just watched?

The most disturbing for me is I think the Saw movies. I cannot watch it by myself and after I watched the first movie of it I became afraid when I am alone especially in my room, I have to open every cabinets and look under my bed just to make sure that there are no person wearing a pig face trying to get me.

When I first watched saw, it was so enjoyable that I predicted there would be a movie franchise for it. I was right!

To me the Saw movies are kind of disturbing. Any of the movies similar to saw that have that torture aspect to them are really disturbing to me. It's not the movie that gets me, it's the fact that someone had this strange, sick idea and then turned it into a movie. No wonder there are psycho killers out there in the world.
But one movie that freaked me out was Wrong Turn. I watched it with my mom while my dad was out of town. We watched it during the day and then that night I slept in her bed. Well, lucky for me my dad's flight was coming in that same night. So at 10:30 my mom woke me up and asked if I wanted to go with her. Of course I wanted to after seeing that movie so I said yes, but then she said no and had me stay home. I stayed in my room with all the lights on until she came back at 12:30 because I was so scared.
Then, that same summer my mom and I went to my grandparents' cabin in Maine. We were all taking a walk in the woods and we were near the main dirt road. All of a sudden I heard an old, rattling truck driving and all I could think of was the scary truck that they drove in the movie Wrong Turn. I held my breath for a minute and turned to look at my mom, who was thinking the same thing as me. Looking back, it was a really funny situation.

Gory movies are my thing as well however I find it somewhat lacking in delivering the scenes. If the scenes had a little bit of atmosphere in them, it might just be the perfect pitch but I still enjoy them anyways.

I found the film Wolf Creek very disturbing.
usually I love horror films. the gorier the better.
but usually gory films, even some of the more extreme ones, have a bit of tongue in cheek about them. so I really enjoyed films like Hostel, even though they're pretty grim, because there is humour in it.
Wolf Creek was just really cold and bleak and harsh. the violence didn't have that aspect of cartoon violence to it. it was too real, too cold and too nasty.
after I watched it, I just felt a bit sort of soiled and disturbed

That is a good question. It right away reminds me of the movie "Dracula". Some years a go, a friend of mine and I sat down and watched that movie on the TV. It was scary from the very beginning, and when it go to about halfway, we decided we will not continue watching it. Otherwise, we won't be able to sleep for the next two weeks !! Amazing !

You'd think it would be something like Hellraiser (which is, indeed, disturbing) or Event Horizon (which I thought was just sci-fi... how wrong I was!) but it's not. The most disturbing movie I've seen is... The Asphyx.
It's a really crappy old 1960's Hammer Horror film but there's just something about the noise the asphyx itself makes and the ending that makes me shudder. I have no idea why. Even just thinking about it makes me nervous.

I agree, its as gory as they come, the original script was developed by Quentin Tarantino, I think that's why it has a lot of gory scenes.

I saw Devil. I certainly didn't see the end coming. I don't think I've seen a movie recently that disturbed me. But I can think of two movies in the past that I saw that left me disturbed. One was The General's Daughter with John Travolta, and the other was 8mm with Nicolas Cage. Neither were horror films, but both left me feeling disturbed after seeing it. Years later I still remember them well.

I remember those 2 films well, the approach on the film was so realistic that even the controversy seemed so real even in the movies. They way they depicted the crimes and how the camera worked the plot was just amazing.

Ooh I don't like elevators as it is, I'm claustrophobic. I would have to say the most disturbing movie I've ever seen has to be Hostel. I've seen most of the Saw movies and didn't think much of them really. I haven't seen Hostel 2 yet so can't comment on that one.

Maybe I am just old fashioned but movies about the devil or possession scare me more than blood and gore or vampires that I just don't believe in. For me the scariest movie I know is the original "Exorcist". I have seen other movies that scare me or keep me in suspense but never one like the first time I saw the Exorcist.

That massacre movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the right name. That movie was so disturbing, with no sense at all, the guy was so crazy just killing and in a really bloody way, plus my mom allowed me to rental that when I was 7 or something, I mean I never forgot it :D
To think that a monster like that really existed...ew.
I hear saw is really disturbing too but I'll never watch it, I hear someone had to cut his own leg to save him self, that's so sad. Now the second most disturbing was surely CUJO, I love animals but that san bernard was really scarry!!!!!!!

I really don't know how M. Night sleeps at night! (No pun intended.) All his films are very disturbing and full of highly creepy creatures and worrying spectres! I wouldn't watch one before bed, and I'm a Medium!

M. Night really has this creative imagination that really works on horror movies. I admire this guy's work but I just wished he didn't participate in the movie The Last Airbender. His forte is always horror.

The Skeleton Key made me afraid to look in the mirror. A lot of scary movies make me afraid to go to sleep. Scream makes me have a whole bunch of nightmares. But I'm addicted to scary movies! I can't stop watching them!

The most disturbing film which I ever watched was Orphan. It was gripping from the bigging to the end. It was the story of a girl who was adopted by normal and loving family. Since the first minutes of the film I had weird experience that there is something wrong with a girl and she seams to me adult.

I don't want to watch horror movies, makes me afraid at night and gives me a nightmare, like when I saw the movie chainsaw masacre, for a week I can't turn off my lights at night because I sometimes feel afraid of the dark, so since then I avoid watching horror movies.
