You might already see that movie "Die Hard #4" on theater or DVD, when the computer security is breached, and the whole nation's network is shutting down, and all the information is lost. What will happen? Financially, and economically disaster will be followed. As convenience, we would love to do everything online, since we knew that we will be using our computer every single day. Our bank would encourage us to view our statement online, or sign up their bill pay service. Utilities companies will encourage us to read their information and update our payment through online service; and we also would register our next semester online on our college website etc...... What if the network, the central one is shutting down all computers. What then? So, sometimes, when I think of it, I would rather have my statement in paper copy rather review it online. What do you think?

Online and offline, all have its own risk.
When it is on a paper, it may being caught on fire, or we may losing it, or someone may steal it from us :))
And there are different risks when we are storing data online.
But I can say, it is safer to store data online.
Even if all computers shut down, the company, the university or so, should always having a backup for the data they store online. So they aren't losing it even the network going down.
Also, the possibility of all network and computer are going down is really small. So I think no need to have a big worry, just try to be more careful :))

hi,
now a days we all rely in technology and gradually papers will gone, that will be the main problem if the system or computers all shut down we cant retrieve files even a look of it,so that we still need documents in paper just in case this situation will happen,we can say that this paper documents will be the back up hard copy of all information we need.

Hi Kingparker. You are so right if something happened to the computer security no telling what would happen. Our government is ran by computers that would be a disaster. Wonder how people made it all these years without the net. Me I didn't get my first computer till 2000. I hated the first windows operating system I used. I know I would miss the net but I actually might get more work done outside. Don't know though when it is hot I don't want to be outside. We don't do anything online when it comes to our bills or banking. Just plain don't trust the security of online banking or paying our bills. Will always have them on paper. Didn't see that movie. But has always been a thought in the back of my head. Heck back 200 years or so they didn't have running water or electricity. And here I sit complaining about the heat. But I think if we never knew something we couldn't miss it. No I will always pay my bills in person and do my banking in person.

I am curious if someone really can do that cause i doubt it. Every computer has their own security features especially in military computers and its not easy to get into the system unless you know how the system works.
Not every computer connected in real terms, maybe they're connected through the internet but each of those connected computers has their own port(like a door) which is not always open and this is why its hard to get into somebodys computer from outside.

Now, that is a true horror story. It would be a major upset in this world if something like that ever happened. And it's not impossible. I do think it's a good idea to keep paper records as a back up. Computers do make our life easy, but in the even of this type of disaster, paper back up would be a giant help, even though it maybe time consuming.

I can't imagine a single day without computer as well as a internet connection. Many a times i had to be a far away from my PC and i only know how did i spend my whole day. It was a disaster. But at the same time, we can't do everything online either way you can say it's not the right time. May be in future everything is going to be online and if then this problem persist then i would be agree with you. But it's not the right time now.

If something happened to the internet so that everything was wiped out, I would lose everything to do with my life. I use the internet for everything, and simply would not have a job without it, as I am self employed and currently work online as my main source of income. If anything were to happen to this income, I would not be able to feed my family and I would have to try and get a job offline. But we all know about the current job market; nothing would be able to happen so the world would all come to a halt and everything would be absolutely and completely messed up.

I have things on papers as well as online. I always make sure that I can have it either way. We should know how to live with the high tech and without it. Since I'm born in the 50s I have experienced the high techonolgy development. I know the obsolete ways.

as we already know it that a computer and the internet are the stand-alone device and services.... meaning, it's impossible....
but if possible, then, the people will just wonder if why????
due to no reason at all,
it is like water, if the water inside the well shut's down, therefore my glass full of water too shut's down?
that's the beauty of the computer with internet connection because when your computer is shutdown, my computer is still working and capable of sending and receiving internet data's because we are not in the same internet server.... and we don't share our IP.....

Yes there is a risk in making all systems to depend online. I think most companies now do store data on computers and online systems. I think there are some out of control action plan ready in cases as such for emergency. Most computer systems have backup storage devices ready and always maintained in cases of power malfunction or inability to access computer systems. Companies have storage and retrieval methods prepared and planned already for this. Personnel are paid big bucks to develop such plans and security measures regarding this so there should be no real worries at all.

You brought in an interesting topic to the discussion.Well Die Hard#4 was really a good movie. If it were for real it really make us all worry about the future. But when we talk about "online thing" nothing would be online without computers. If we were to communicate and to be online there certainly has to be somebody to serve us.."THE servers" and these giant network servers are nothing but computers. So as you have said if all Central servers and giant computers are shutting down,we'll have comeback to our paper copies..post offices..and we'll not be able to communicate with each other in flash...

For convenience, it would be best to have at least an online transaction where you can automatically pay but I always request a hard copy of my transaction may it be the bank or just payments. I never trusted online statements that says they are accurate. I think that's the key - to not trust completely in the system may it be paper or online.
