Part of my career before was being a teacher and I was once assigned to interview incoming students in the college of sciences where I belong. During every interview, I always asked the incoming students why did they chose this health-related course...and some would just answer because it's what my parents want to.. and most have answered "because most other courses deals a lot of mathematics...I hate math!"
I was totally amused by their answer because personally I don't like Math subjects too...not that I really hate it, I just don't like it period. I'm sure some of you also don't like the subject but...
why do you think a lot of common people just dislike math subject? what is it with that subject?

I can't hate math because at the moment i have to study lots of math's because i am in a computer software school and i like have 5-6-7 math hours a day and it gets fun when you know what you are learning and if you do it non-stop like every subject is fun if you know about it and learn it's not hard if you learn it and not give it up .Because i am learning scripting languages like C++ and other stuff you know php, html, ajax ... and yeah i am good at other subjects too like biology, chemistry and such stuff.Math's is not that bad if you study it ...

that's what I meant in my first respond above that the subject do has it's importance and purpose but most people just can't get the grip of understanding the whole subject and I'm one of them I guess... good for you.

like them I don't like math too, I get sleepy when it's about math already, the problems and formulas are so hard to understand, I would rather choose to memorize long paragraphs than solve math problems. on my class more than half of us have low grades on this subject.

do you think it's because our brain prefers to memorize or understand words rather than memorizing the numbers? I like memorizing words or paragraphs too than numbers too. when I had my new cellphone number and someone asked me my number, I had to look it up inside my cell phonebook, gosh..took me about a 3 days or more before I could finally memorize it.

I took up civil engineering and that course had a lot of math in it. Your alphabet will be replaced with numbers. It was also fun, though, because we were learning on how structures are being built and how math are heavily responsible for most of the structure.

I think Mathematics can be difficult, when you do not have the skills to solve the Mathematical problems. But when you have learnt how to complete the Mathematics it becomes fun and interesting. Mathematics are all aruond you in our mundane life. when you go shopping it is calculation. when you cook, you measure how much of each ingredient you need for you finnished meal.

ahh, what skills would that be to solve a mathematical problem? calculating the numbers? I think we all have that skill, it's kinda basic already within our brain but still the subject is quite difficult to understand at most times it is being taught by our Math teachers in high school.

My opinion is, we dont see the purpose of studying mathematics.
Oh Yes, I admit that we do need to make use of knowledge of mathematics in our daily life, like going shopping, but we just use + - x / all the time, these are simple and basci mathematics, we don't actually mind learning these. But do we use function? or other concepts like calculating the angles of circle when going to the supermarket? The answer is definitely NO.
If it is not practical to learn that much of mathematics, why do we need to learn? ;p When we are forced to learn mathematics, something we think it is to certain extent useless, just because of the school syllabus, how can we like mathematics?

I don't like math subject but I would have to say there is a purpose in studying mathematics otherwise this computer where we type in our opinions would not have been invented, as well as the mathematical equations needed to create the myLot program script.

Part of the reason could be that many have a mind setting that math is a difficult subject and so it is difficult to understand. It is common thing for humans to take the easy way. In my opinion, however, I find it the most easiest subject for me to understand. believe me or not, i dislike that subject due to the reason i mention above, but when i got used to it, all of a sudden, i liked it. What i like with this subject is how its principles are put into practical use. The designs of buildings, product containers, machineries, and other things are the result of its applications.

i am not of a math hater, i love math, i love solving different type of mathematical problems.
maybe (for other), they find math hard because you may see different numbers, digits and equations, but in reality math is not that hard all you have to do is go the basic of it and you may solve every mathematical problem that will be thrown to you.

I am one of those who people who don't like Math also. Not that i am not good at it, but because i just don't like it.
Though, bragging aside, i am good in Math too. In fact, i could easily calculate mentally. It's just those equations that i hate.
As to what is it with Math that makes most people hate it, i really just don't know. Maybe for some really find Math a hard subject.

Hi smashville!
In my opinion, I guess many doesn't like math because they don't want this subject to add up to their problems. Usually we see this subject as a burden where we need to solve it while we also have problems of our own to solve. Sometimes it's also just the mindset that we think it's hard. I'm not that very good in math but most of the time if we think that it's difficult then it's really difficult, but if we challenge ourselves and think that we can do it then it's maybe it wouldn't be that hard. Sometimes we just want the easy way and avoid the challenges. I guess, if you dislike something then most probably it will also dislike you.

Math is a difficult subject to understand if you don't love numbers. I think they hate math because it need more logic and analysis. At the first I did nto really love math because I don't really get it. But what I did was I keep on practicing and beginning to love the numbers. The result,I learn to love the subject. Believe it or not it increases you're logical thinking and reasoning. You cannot escape math in you're life instead you must deal it and keep always in mind the basics.
