Are you still reading the Bible? Not long ago I was reminded of the teachings that the prophet Daniel wrote down.
He and his three friends were taken to Babylon and they were placed in their schools for education. All did well and got important assignments in Babylon.
Their faith in the true God was tested, but they remained faithful even when they risked losing their lives.
Daniel was inspired by God to explain a dream that king Nebuchadnezzar had and its fulfillment extends until our days. He predicted the world powers that would come after Babylon.
They are Medo Persia, Greece, Rome and the last one is the Anglo American world power. It is very exciting, as there is no human empire coming after this one.
So what will happen?
Let´s read what Daniel was inspired to say to the Babylonian king:
"During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever." - Daniel 2:44 (New Living Translation)
Daniel got many more prophecies from God. Some of them have been fulfilled in our days, and some will be fulfilled in the near future.
Let´s look at the last chapter:
"8 I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, “How will all this finally end, my lord?”
9 But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end."
In the last chapter God promises that Daniel will have a resurrection from death:
13 “As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you.”
There is a lot more to say about this inspiring book. Have you read it?? Or are you going to read and study it??
What have you learned of the book of Daniel??

I read some parts of the book of Daniel. I like the story on how he was put in the lion's den. That only shows how powerful God is. I like the story of Jonah as well. I'm wondering if it is a whale shark that swallows him.

Hi, chiwasaki - I am not sure what kind of fish that one was but I know one man in our days was swalloed by a big fish and survived when the fish was caught. I read an article about it some years ago.
Here is an article about the chronology that helped Bible students before the days of Jesus learn what time they should expect that the Messih would come:

I still read bible but not to often. It is good to hear you're sharing about the prophet and God. We must never forget God. He is always there to us in times of happiness and troubles. Just continue to pray and love God as He love us. I did not really read the boo of Daniel. I will read it if I have spare time. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, zerd87 Good to hear that you are reading the Bible. I started to do it more regularly, a few chapters a day, as I downloaded the books from jw.org - it helps to hear someone reading the text and you can follow with the text version in watchtower.org site - also biblegateway.com has many different translations so we can compare them.
You are right, God is always near if we want to talk to Him. He listens to our sincere prayers. And He talks to us from His word. They are like letters from our loving Father.
Happy reading..

When I was little my mum taught me the Lord's prayer, and I remember lying in bed wondering about its meaning, specifically about the "thy kingdom come" part. I wondered what that meant. Many years later when I studied the Bible in earnest with Jehovah's Witnesses I felt totally excited to read Daniel 2:44. I was amazed to find that "the Kingdom" Jesus talked so much about had been prophesied by Daniel hundreds of years earlier. And that far from being a 'wishy washy' "condition of the heart" it is a real government that will permanently replace the many and varied governments of men.
Let's face it, they need replacing. Most people who do vote admit that they are not voting for a 'great party' -- just the least objectionable one! Politicians who start their course with the finest of intentions often end up succumbing to human failings in one form or another.
So to have a perfect God-given government, with Jesus as its head, will be wonderful. No more fiscal blowouts, overspends, corruption, exorbitant taxes, crazy laws, or any of the other things that have plagued men's governmental efforts over the centuries!

Hi, Kiwibee - good to see you.. I wonder how many have repeated to Lord´s prayer wondering the same thing as you did. It is amazing how children think logically, often more than adults..
Daniel 2:44 has been one of the best ways for me to show what God´s purpose with the earth is.
A world government with Christ as king is real, and will soon take over the whole earth and undo all the harm that the Devil and wicked people have caused.
And we can meet Daniel and all the others from his time.
Thank you for sharing your experience!!

I have not read that particular book for a long time but you make me want to!
I have recently read 3 books by Orson Scott Card that you might like. It's a series of 3 called Women of Genesis. Rebekah, Leah and Rachel, and Sarah are wonderful books that give a glimpse into what life may have been like and the author's intent is to humanize these women and make people feel closer to God. He succeeds, in my opinion. If you have a library near, they may have them if you're interested.

Hi dragon Yes, why not start reading Daniel´s book? It has so much to give.. I went to watchtower.org and did a search with "prophecies fulfilled" and found a lot of interesting info there.
These books you mention might be in the library, so perhaps I can find them here. Those women had a very different life compared with us, as they were wives of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Have a great day..

Daniel's story was one of the childhood tales that left an impact on me. A lion is a mighty beast, and I was afraid of it. To be in a den full of lions, as in Daniel's story, was marvelous to me. But when Daniel was called by his King Darius again, I knew it was a story that would forever be in my heart.

Hi, eileenleyva
Daniel in the den of lions is a story that kids love to hear, and adults too.
It shows what kind of God Daniel worshiped, a God who can change the whold world to a better place when the prophecies that Daniel wrote down will be fulfilled!
Thank you for sharing your childhood experience with us..

I have been reading the bible but not exactly in order every time. I have not read the whole book of Daniel, but now I think I will. It sounds very intresting. I just finished Esther and almost done with Job. I feel like Job right now and don't want to be whining all the time so I am learning quite a bit. Thanks and God Bless

I am so happy that you got interested in reading the book of Daniel. We all need encouragment and God´s word gives plenty of it.
We can be sure that we will be blessed like Job, if we sincerely try to be faithful and follow God´s laws and principles.
I have been listening and reading the Bible more than before since July last year and can almost hear my mom reading some of the verses, as she used to read the Bible aloud for us.
I like to listen to the good readers when I download the Bible books from jw.org or read the same translation in written form from watchtower.org - a bible society.
I wish you happy reading..
