‘Buzz’ in gmail.

When I log in gmail, I find an icon termed as ‘Buzz’ on the left side. I have no idea of it nor have I ever clicked on it. Can you kindly give an idea of it? What’s its use and how to use it? Is it unique to gmail only or any other email provider has also something similar or equivalent to it but, of course, with a different name?

buzz is just for sharing the updates to our friends,it is just like the personal feeds.what ever the activity you do on gmail,it is created as buzz and who ever follows your buzz,they get this notification.it is created just to compete twitter

Good question I also waiting for response because this question was in my mind since last week. What is the meaning of buzz.
