7 Lives Left

I never believed the superstition that a cat has 9 lives, at least until now. My kitten is barely 4 months old and has gone through at least 2 lives. My husband rescued him out of a forklift at work and I raised him from 2 weeks old. So there goes 1 life, if my husband didn't save him. And three days ago he ran away and I didn't find him until Saturday afternoon. He was attacked by something, wouldn't eat, wouldn't come when called, just really dying. I'm on a farm and the vet was at the barn so we brought him over. The vet( I never had a problem with him until this) said he had no broken ribs, but would have to be nursed back to health but he still might not make it. He said there is no reason to take him in because they would just put him to sleep. I'm thinking, really, is there nothing you can do? But whatever, I've helped my kitty before so I guess ill do it again. So I feed and water him with a dropper every 4 hours and Sunday he's still sick, but at least he's purring. Today he's doing so good. He actually ran and jumped up to see me and rubs himself all over me and purring. I guess its his way of saying thankyou. He's eating wet food, but at least he's eating by himself. So that's an even closer to death, life taken away. So he has seven left. I really don't want him to lose any more, but at least I know he has the will to survive. So does anyone else really believe cats have 9 lives? Or has anyone gone through this with their cat?

I don't know about "9" lives, but many times my cats will develop serious medical problems and have managed to pull through on their own, without medication or veterinary treatment.

Every day there is a possibility of mishaps. Given the fact the cat is still alive, think positively, it has more then 9 lives. Everyday is a new life to it. Humans too, actually, since anyone of us can go anytime. Let's be thankful for each new day we live.

My cat, The Doctor, was found under a parked car in a parking lot at the corner of 2 really busy streets in town. He then had more than his fair share of cat fights, had a bout of UTI, and thyroid cancer. I figured he used up his 9 lives when I finally lost him to kidney failure at almost 12... Oliver, the black and white kitten in my avatar, was a week old when he was found - and he had spent a night, alone, in a yard before the people finally brought him in (they were hoping mom would come back for him.) I KNOW he used at LEAST one life that time, but it could've been a few more for all I know. Now, Rygel, the white eared cat in my avatar when from the place he was born to my house, but he has gotten out a few times, so he might've used a few lives at those times, I don't know for sure.

I have had several cats that have used up at least one life and maybe two, but Felix which was my last cat probably used his nine plus a few from other cats. Felix was one two stray kittens who took refuge in my dog's custom made dog hotel (and no, I'm not rich...I just had a friend who loved to tinker around with wood and other things so he challenged himself to see if he could build a dog house and boy, was it a nice one!. Well Felix just about used up his first life when my dog discovered them in the house. The other kitten ran never to be seen again, but Felix stayed and had a show down with my dog (who was a chow/german shepherd mix. After my dog realized that Felix was not going anywhere and that he was not afraid of him, Felix stayed in the doghouse and my dog stayed out of it (absolutely true story). It was not long before those two became best friends. Well if that wasn't enough, Felix grew and eventually began having cat fights. He was always coming home battered. Then one day he came home and I noticed he looked strange. One side of his face was swollen and it continued to swell badly so I took him to the vet where he had to have surgery to remove almost half of his face due to infection. Another time he came into house looking very sluggish, he would not eat. Remember the guy who built the dog house? Well he also worked on cars in my backyard. He had left a container of anti freeze open and it was knocked over on the ground. Fearing the worse I took Felix to the vet where they confirmed he ingested the antifreeze, said he would not live if he did not start eating, gave him fluid and meds to make him more comfortable. Said he may eat some soft food in about 3 days. Felix started eating the next morning and by evening he was back eating dry food. Felix had a few more brushes with the hereafter, and managed to survive them all, and his best feat yet was when we lost our house and had to move out, guess who got to stay and was at first taken care of by various neighbors and then adopted by the new residents of the house? Yes I believe cats DO have 9 lives!

it is only an expression because whenever in a danger situation, especially if you chase those cats, they can easily find and escape route that you might expect to them, cat's no way to escape.... as you expecting the unexpected, and expressed as nine lives....
