India gets humiliated and humbled by England in the second test

India couldn't even muster 200 runs and folded up for 158 in the second test against England in the ongoing Test Series.
Once Dravid and Laxman failed it was evident that defeat cannot be averted but one expected team to put some fight!
But these defeats are good in a way. Is this the way to treat an important Test Series? Players are injured and they get selected! And adding to that a few more get injured. And top of it no one tries to apply themselves and go for shots like they do on flat pitches! Habit you can say but four innings continuously? Beats me!
Either they are stubborn and don't want to learn or they are just hoping that they will win somehow!
You can't go to a test without proper opening batsmen. You need specialized openers. Mukund is failing but India has no alternative! Rather they have to sacrifice Dravid as an opener. But it is commendable that Dravid somehow managed in that role.
Bowling is just below par for the test match level. No more to say about.
If Indian think tank sits down and correct the things and put a fully fit and in form players only then India can think of good performance.
Pity that India has to face such a in form England and that too in their backyard!
Let us hope Sehwag and Gambhir will be back and India can give some fight.
Share you thoughts!

Well played England and they surely deserved to win this game. The reason I say so is because England came from behind and took control of the game. India had done well on day one and two and many would have predicted an Indian win. Few would have put their money on England and really no one could have imagined this outcome. England outclassed India in all departments of the game and ended up victorious.
Also there is going to be heavy critism as to why have players who have still not recovered from injury been selected for such an important tour. You have to have the best players in your side and in case their are suffering from injury it can be a big mistake selecting them as has happened now. Sehwag is still recovering but England have already done the damage and it will be very difficult to get back in the series.
Moreover India did lose but they lost with a big margin. In the first test they lost by little under 200 runs and now in the second test they lost by over 300 runs. These kind of results are not expected from a number one team. They have to put in solid performances. Looking at the scorecard of India's second innings amongst the top six batsmen only Sachin managed to get to double figures. What a disaster.
Full credit to England for stealing victory from the hands of defeat. India will have to work hard from now on if they are to prove anything in the remaining matches in the series. Mind you it will be tough but not impossible. On the other hand England will look to finish off India and wrap up the series in the third test..

What I think is that Team India is not getting enough rest. They are playing lots of international series a IPL matches.BCCI should take care about this.
Management has just changed for team India as new coach has come,so it will take some time to do better performance.
English condition is also very tough for any team specially for asian team.
Hope team india will overcome the problem and make level the series and for these senior players like Scachin,Dravid and Laxman has play from the front.
Cheers

The problem was India had some chances but they didn't capitalize on them. While bowling they had England at 128/8 and then didn't finish it off properly. And while batting India was 264/4! This was crucial stage and India could have got a very decent lead but they failed. So India needs to maintain the focus and shouldn't let the advantage slip away. That is the key for next two matches.

When you are totally dependent on some players and are playing game of musical chairs with youngsters you will be caught on a wrong end one day, thats what happened with team India. With all due respect to Dhoni he is an excellent captain when it comes to limited overs cricket, but he is not up-to the mark as far as tests are concerned and he has a long way to go.Stats may present him as very successful test captain but he struggled in tours of SA and SL too, but got away there.India is not playing any practice matches and Dhoni is not picking right players for test format.Raina and Yuvraj will always struggle in seaming conditions no matter how many chances they get.Raina had a poor SA tour and Yuvraj has not played even a first class match to prove that they are good enough to play in important series like this, still they are picked on the basis of their ODI performances.Opening is very important position in England and Mukund with almost no experience was picked, this is not ODI or T20 where you can place a talented youngster and he will make a big hundred ,its much tougher in tests.Dhoni has to learn a lot as test captain, however i am optimistic that he will realize sooner than later as he has brilliant cricketing mind but this shocker was important to show the faults in the system.

Yes, you are right. Depending on some players itself indicates that they are not playing as a team but looking at some players to bring them out of difficult situations. But it doesn't happen always. And not having specialized openers is silly. So team selection was wrong on this front. They should select openers. India was actually starting their batting from one down as!
And young players are not ready to sweat it out in the middle, they immediately want to play shots! What was the need for Hook shot for short pitched deliveries? Raina, Mukund, Yuvraj just don't know how to handle short pitched balls. And they are not ready to work on it as it was there since a couple of years.

It was really a gut wrenching performance from the Indian cricket team. It really put the number 1 ranking in perspective. England batted, bowled and fielded much better than India throughout the match. The last 5 batsmen of England batted much better than the entire Indian batting lineup. And that really is a very sad story for India!!
Cheers!

I have observed many a times in the past that India finds it difficult remove tailenders quickly! It is a big draw back since so many years. The reason mainly because of failure of bowling. There are no quickies who can bowl toe crushing yorkers and clean up the tail. No spinners who can bamboozle the tail enders with their turn and flight. India should seriously assess their bowling and develop good bowlers rather than going ga ga over only batsmen.

Basic problem with Indian team is that they keep on looking at player like Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxaman, Sachin and Zaheer. When these players are not playing then Indian batting and bowling struggle. I do not understand why Raina is uncomfortable against short pitch balls, one can duck and leave the ball. If he is keen to hit them then he has to practice a lot and chances to hit those balls for 6 or 4 is just 20% on bowler friendly pitches. So, why can't he learn from Sachin or Dravid or Laxman. Yuvaraj is looking very dull and I did not like his attitude at all in the 2nd test match. He too kept on playing short balls and did not rotate the strike. Dhoni is pathetic with bat and with gloves it is average. Why Dravid and Laxman has to change their spots. Why can't players like Raina or Yuvaraj or Dhoni open the innings instead of solid Dravid open the innings and good middle order batsman like Laxman come at number 3. When will these younger players learn playing in tests. I do feel that Murali Vijay should have come along with the team. He is learning and ok he failed in West Indies but trying for another 2 tests in England is not a bad idea. Instead of experimenting with players like Dravid. Harbhajan singh form in bowling is wanted from long time. In West Indies too he did not make any difference. Why can't Ashwin be selected or Amit Mishra. Why keep on trying out of form players.

Actually I think they don't realize the value of Test Cricket. most of the time they are in the mood of T20 or ODIs. So they try to hit shots even before they settle down. They need more patience and focus to succeed in Test cricket. And they need to work hard. But repeated failure to learn to handle short pitched deliveries shows that they don't try to correct their problems! It is really a concern for future as Sachin, Dravid, Laxman won't be there for long.

I have said from the begining that i believe England would win the series against India.Reason? India's top batsmen are out of form. They were lucky to have won the series in the West Indies but England is the real test for them.England is a side that plays together and if they sniff the slightess weakness in a team or a player they will exploit it to the fulless, and that is what they did with India.Congratulations to the English team.

This is the third biggest loss of any team in test if we consider the runs.
The team with such a great calibre was so helpless.
But then its cricket and nothing is predictable.
We can only hope that in future they will perform better and will retain the title.

More than Title, India needs to just play to their strength and don't get defensive. It all started in West Indies when Indian team thought that they could lose the game if they tried to win! What a negative mindset to have. No wonder they are suffering in the hands of supremely confident England team. What you think is what you are! So Indian team needs to think and believe that they can beat England!
