Last week my son and I had a trip in Hong Kong for a week. And therefore we visited the Disney in Hong Kong. It's hard to believe that we didn't enjoy it very much. First, it is not very funny. My son even said the Disneyland is for girls. Second, it's crowded everywhere and we had to wait for a long time to play anything inside. Third, the gifts, food etc. are expensive there and I even think it's like robbing money. Sorry, but these are my comments to Disneyland and we probably won't go to the Disneyland any more.

Woop!! I have always wanted to be in Honkong, Disneyland not so much. Anyway I would like to go there once though.
I have heard there are a lot of people there too, I wonder if it's more crowded than here. Here, in amusement parks we have to wait in massive lines too. It really bothers me sometimes.
Anyway hey do you mind if I ask you something? How much did it cost for you to go to HK for a week? Including the flight money and all, if you don't mind. And thanks, I'm planning to go there next year so I would love to know how much it would cost as a tourist.

Since I live close to Hong Kong, so I just went there by the high speed train and it cost about HKD190. A common hotel may charge about HKD400/day. The traffic charge is a little expensive in Hong Kong. I think it may be around HKD300-400/week. As to the food, you can easily find some little restaurants and it is not expensive. And buying some top class products seem to be less expensive because Hong Kong is a shopping heaven. Since it doesn't have the tax, so the product is cheaper.

but disneyland in Japan has no English translations. so if you are not fluent in Japanese. it is also not that easy to get visas for Japan not like Hongkong we dont need a Visa. so for the mean time our plan is Hongkong. we need a lot and lots of money if we really wanted to visit Tokyo Disney land.

Hello youless. Never have I been to such a place as Disneyland, but it seems that we will have one here in our area as I was told. If there were to be one here, I would like to have a look at it as it is so famous. As to the price you have mentioned here, I think that it might be understandable because they have spent a large amount of money on it. Now it is time for them to get more than triple the money they have invested in the Disneyland. Expensive as it is, you have seen the layout of the Disneyland and enjoyed it to some degree if I could say so. Anyway, it is a kind of experience visiting the Disneyland. Have a good day, youless.

I heard that there will be a new Disneyland in Shanghai in the future, but I think it will be much more expensive than Hong Kong since today RMB is worth a lot than HKD. I prefer to go to Chimelong which is an amusement park in my city. It is lot of fun and excitement

Hi!
I been to Hong Kong before but right before the Hong Kong Disneyland opening. . For me Disneyland are kind of a place for you to realize your childhood fantasy. There you can see many cartoons characters from your childhood.
When talk about Hong Kong, it doesn't give me a good impression, in Hong Kong, everything is about money, and everything there are so expensive. For example the same value of a bowl of noodle in Hong Kong can be 3 bowls of noodle in my country. So, if you are really rich, then only you will enjoy the trip in Hong Kong.

My boyfriend won a free trip to Disneyland Hongkong for 2 back in their company's anniversary last 2009. I was actually in a middle of training during that time so we really can't go there. Good thing the company was able to convert the prize to cash. I want to go to Disneyland Japan but probably if already I have a lot of money since every thing there is so expensive.

stephcjh,
I believe that you will find it economical considering the fact that you are from the US where for one you have an appreciated currency over Hong Kong. Also, with the budget airlines plying between the US and Asia, I am sure you will or may find it even more economical and/or value for money, than doing this in your country.
Also, Hong Kong is not only known for Disneyland but a shoppers' paradise and a place for gourmet food lovers. Just plan the trip in advance and you will find the savings I am talking about here.

youless,
For a start, the theme park in Hong Kong does lack the atmosphere and novelty as compared to the one's in Anaheim or Orlando in the US. It is also not really the same as in Japan and France as well where for one they both operate in Japanese and French. IMO, I feel that being an international theme park and mainly catering to foreign tourists, they should have considered using the English language to make it more enjoyable.
As for Hong Kong, I just have to wonder how Disneyland could decide to have it built in a very crowded and land scarce country. So, I can understand your feelings of being a little crammed than their US counterparts. But, still I would advise against covering the theme park in a day or two. I have to add that you need to prepare to splurge when you visit the theme park, starting with staying at the theme park's hotel and getting the 4 days or week pass to allow you entering the park repeatedly and especially getting in when the park opens at the first hour where there will not be a crowd to your favorite rides and sites.
I know it may be expensive doing what I advocate but considering what it might cost with traveling repeatedly to the theme park at early hours and the expensive daily passes, otherwise. Also, if you really sit down and calculate, you might find some savings to what I advocate especially when you visit them during the off season.
Take care and have a better trip next time.

In fact I had thought about booking the Disneyland Hotel for a day so that we can go to the park for two days. Fortunately I didn't do so, as my son already wanted to leave in the afternoon. I tried to persuade him to stay until the fireworks at night, but he had no interest to the Disneyland already.

youless,
I can probably understand that part of the reason would be the hot summer weather and the frustrating long queues at the popular rides. Children can be easily irritated just as it is easy for them to get distracted which is why a trip to the Disneyland always need to be planned well.
Like for my family, I would get them to be indoors like Toontown's playhouses where they are air conditioned and children's favorite cartoon characters will be appearing with treats or photo shooting every now and then. Not forgetting, all those favorite snacks and candies available around. They really have a lot of things to keep your child preoccupied until the evening for the big parade and fireworks. As for the rides, this is where the theme park hotel will come in handy which allows us to access the theme park at the very first hour before opening (privilege to Disneyland Hotel guests only) where there will be no queues at all of the rides. In Orlando, we had Mickey Mouse, Chip and Dale and Pluto joining us for breakfast on different days - so the investment at the theme park hotel is really what I would consider value for money in that sense.
I really hope that the tip here will enable your son to enjoy his next trip to the Disneyland, though it is a pity that he did not on this trip. Have a nice day.

hi youless I havenot been to disneyland here in Anaheim in years as each year they raised the admissions prices so much it was hard for us to afford it. it used to be a wonderful place and lots of neat things to see and reasonable food prices b ut now they are so greedy that a lot of Americans cannot afford that at all and I am told its njust not fun anymore everything is so expensive. I am so sorry you and your son were disappointed as years back going to Disneyland here in the uS was only three miles away and really inexpensive and we had loads of fun but now I am elderly my daughter and husband both deceased and my son now 52. now m uch too expensive anyway.

I couldn't agree with you more, youless. It isn't worth the money and the lines aren't worth waiting in. I'd rather go to a small local amusement park than Disney. None of the gifts are worth the money at ANY major amusement park. You are not alone in thinking like that. Not at all.

Oh,sorry that you did not enjoy Disneyland Hong Kong. I understand your feelings! I'd say that no matter how nice the place is, if the place is crowded you can't really enjoy. And when you go to a place which offers very expensive stuffs it would really kill the joy somehow especially if you feel the prices are simply overpriced. At any rate I hope you get over your disappointment over Disneyland and hopefully your next vacation to another place will be a truly enjoyable one.

Taking a trip is both tired and expensive. It is small wonder that there were crowds of people and everything was too dear, because you went to Disneyland during summer vacation time. However,It is not altogether bad,You have at least settled a matter in which you wanted to take a trip in company with your son.
