Give a reason (neg) rating

We are all different people here on mylot. From different backgrounds, with different emotional stabilities. I was negatively rating someone because I felt they deserved it, when I thought "mylot needs to implement a reason field when giving a negative rating. Something that they can see in the background, and judge for themselves on.
It would eliminate all these "they negged me and I didn't deserve it's!" and help those who make the responses that sound negative, insult the person who made the discussion, or just has no relevance to the discussion.
This is where I stand on that : Sure, reply, even if you don't know what to say but TELL ME you don't know what to say, and even if you don't? WISH ME LUCK that I find the answer. Don't just say "I'm talking out of my bum here and want to make the money this response will make me!"
I'm going to respond no matter what, why? I need the extra money, but don't think I won't negative rate you.
This is where we need the reason button, if it comes that people's star drops they can contact mylot, who would have it filtered out in the background under their username and can send the reports from the last say 2 weeks to them. That way they know, of course username who reported them not shown, but still, they'd know.
Soooo, this is my rant for the day.
What do YOU think about THAT?
(kudos to those who realize this question is also in a country song. Extra kudos if you GUESS which one)

Not needed. It'd be far too much data and totally pointless, since most people wouldn't bother filling it in. The rating button isn't like the report button: the latter is an admin function while the former is just expressing an opinion. You can't oversee or judge opinion.
People who are worried about their rating dropping should perhaps worry about what they're posting more than what other people think about them. That'll usually provide an answer.
Can I have some kudos for hating country music?

You're asking the wrong girl for those kudos (after all I'm a country fan), but I'll give you kudos if you're not a fan of rap! :)
You are right, I mean the more I think about it, it would be pretty worthless. That and it'd be wrong for mylot to "oversee" the negative ratings like that, especially since they'd not have the time to do it anyway and it'd take away from them getting those who are abusing the system.
Some of those, perhaps, who are worried about their rating dropping first language isn't english, and english may not be their strong language, so they're even more confused.
I don't know, I've got myself confused already this early morning!
Where's my coffee? (wait I don't drink that)

The language doesn't (shouldn't) drop the rating - it's purely from posting material that depreciates the value of MyLot. In other words, stupid crap.
Perhaps if you drank coffee, you'd have better taste in music?
I'm going to run away now, before you beat me up.
(I'm kidding, of course, and I don't like rap.)

It would be good if someone had to give a reason for down rating, but that is the same as abuse rating. I think some people would like to rate abuse but do not want to say why, so they neg rate instead. I seldom rate people negative, often I do not think to, or my hand moves faster than my brain and I rate them + instead. For instance a friend posted a question about reporting abusive messages and a newby basically told her to quit whining and being a tattle tale. I accidentally rated him + then proceeded to tell him he was totally out of line. He was not really abusive, I wish I had rated him -.

hi GardenGerty after we repeat mylot wants us to help them in reporting abuse why do some people still think its wrong and
'mean and being a tattletale. abuse is abuse.I took some abuse
over and over from one man when I first came here,he called
me an old hag, stupid old witch and other nasty things but
finally when he told me I was s.hi.t. stupid I did report him
and according to mylot admins pm to me fifteen other people reported him and when he kept doing it he was banned from mylot.yes I feel we are not being mean when we report real abuse.

I actually don't use that button because I think it is dumb. I give kudos to most people and ignore some but I Never use the negative button. It's pointless. If I disagree with someone, well all that means is that we have different thinking...no big deal. If they get a little rude with me...that's ok too because I've been there myself. I try to work with the person. If someone is blatantly abusing the rules or being over the top ridiculously rude and disrespectful then I'll hit the report button and give my reason and leave it to mylot to decide. I don't like the negative button and see no point in it. It's too wide open for abuse. If someone offends you enough that you feel admin. should know then just hit report and report them. I won't neg rate someone just because they don't like what I'm saying and think I'm talking out my butt. They are entitled to their opinion even if I don't like their opinon. They really don't have to agree with me. I don't listen to country so I really couldn't answer that question at all.

somecowgirl I hate that negative button as anyone can rationalize why they hit the minus but unless to me its messed up the discussion or is rude and insulting to the discussion maker why minus just because you think thats not as good a response as what you would make
is not reason enough. I think there are a whole lot of people who hit that mainly as they do not really favor this particular user. I think we should narrow it down to rude and insulting, why screw u p peoples stars and reps just because we may think we are so much smarter. in fact lets do away with the minus button and anything rude or insulting can just be reported and let mylot admins rate s they are more impartial.this is my own take on things.

As always..Hatley's wisdom should enlighten everyone. I wish they would just do away with that stupid Neg. button which leaves way too much opportunity for abuse and opinion. I just don't use it at all. I don't even abuse the Plus button. If someone gives a well thought out answer then I do plus it even if I don't agree. If it is a lame response but not abusive or worth reporting then I just bypass it.

I think that would be good, because that would be a form of quality control. But the reality is, that would require a full time person reading all the reasons, and sifting all the 'good reasons' from the 'just-because reasons'. I don't know exactly how myLot works, but I hope they can handle all that data, if they decided to go with it.

hi, you do got a point, some people just respond to post to increase earning. for my own reason i usually don't rank or rate negatively i just don't rate those bad answer at all, i rate up the good ones.
my star dropped from 9 to 8, not a big deal for me cause i know that people just give bad rating if they don't like your answer or if you have different point of view, it shouldn't be like that i hope people could be fair to each other.

At this point your participation points are so low at 130 that it would not take much to raise you up some if people will just rate you with a + when they see your responses or posts. I hope it happens for you. They should not rate - just because they do not agree with you.

It's not a bad idea. The reason field will further clarify the reason why the response is rated negative. This will help a person to be cautious in his future responses as will educate him to be more positive a particular context. This will also help to learn the basis of mylotting and will go long way to give direction to one's thought process in life.

A reason field sounds good to me. I know of several people on various sites who feel that they have been left negative ratings just because someone disagreed with them: hardly a justification..
As for country songs, I am as likely to be teaches volleyball...
