I would advise your friend to save his money and get his own Dell. They offer pay-as-you-go programs so you can pay the computer off in installments. That's what I've had to do with my last two laptops. I don't make a whole lot of money, so I scrimp and save and pay things off in installments. He will be happier if he earns the laptop himself. And, asking you to trade would be an insault to his father who got him the computer in the first place. He should at least use it, put it through its pases, and later down the road if he needs a new one... buy one himself.

I would advice sticking to your laptop. Or if you want to, charge him $100 for the exchange

I would suggest not to trade since DELL is a really good brand. I prefer DELL over HP (sorry to HP lovers out there :P). Second, there's still warranty on your laptop while your friend has none. What if your friend's laptop suddenly got a problem? You still have to pay for the repairs to be done. Other than that, the specs almost the same. If you want the additional 100GB hard disk, you can buy an external hard disk anytime. It'll be more than 100GB too :)
But then, if you really want to trade just to have an experience on how to handle HP, you can ask your friend to trade with your for a limited time. Like... A week or two? Then decided if you really want to trade or not. Or, as strawberry said, wait for your warranty to expire/end before you trade with your friend :)
