Excessive overeating may be a result of many factors. This includes guilt, loneliness and nervousness. Our body tend to use food as a facifier to calm the nerves become ingrained into the daily lifestyle. Overeating can also be a means to create a protective shell in order to keep people at a distance.
The hypothalamus, which registers emotional feelings also controls appetite--the desire to eat and consume food. When food is placed in the stomach, a calming effect takes place. There is a profound connection between food and stress.
From there, ask yourself whether eating is something you feel have control over, or is eating something that is controlling you.
I hope my sharing this will help. Good day.

That's a very scientific approach to overeating. There are a lot of other reasons too. I feel like I heard somewhere that sometimes we mis-read the signs our brain is giving us - we might just be tired, thirsty, or bored and we should 'assess' what we are actually feeling instead of automatically eating. *shrugs*. It's interesting to know.

Your post points out to a variety of different things that are 100% accurate and true. However, there are other things that causes people to overeat as well. Such as certain chemicals in processed foods which triggers our brains to think we are still hungry and need more food. Other factors is having an imbalanced flora. Which is the natural occurring chemicals (or should I say bacteria) we have in our digestive system. When the bad bacteria over powers the good bacteria, this will cause cravings which in turn will make us overeat. Not only that, but will also make it difficult for us to digest our foods properly and hence health issues will begin to arise. Make sense? Awesome post though :-).

Welcome to mylot SorceEdea. It's good to have you here with us. Yes, you are right. There can be plenty of factors causing it. Other foods too can lead to gastric disorders making people eat more because it makes them feel hungry. If I am not mistaken acidity rises when the good bacteria is overpowered by the bad ones. Thanks a lot.

Yes, that is an excellent assessment. Many people over-eat as a way to cope with loneliness. I have seen cases of people suffering from high blood pressure due to over-eating. The primary cause is loneliness, but over-eating enhances the suffering.

That is so true. Unfortunately for me, I'm an emotional eater, and when I'm very tense, I tend to eat a lot. It gives a comfort. I guess they say that is the effect of carbohydrates. It's an uphill battle for me, as my work (or rather, my boss) is very stressful. But, I am still fighting.

Don't worry because the battle can be fought well. If we tend to eat the bad foods because they are more tasty, there still are foods to combat them. Take pineapples or other fruits and other foods to burn and flush out the bad effects and you can worry less that it might affect you that much.

Hi! Our body needs food to live. But we should eat only what we need to be healthy. By other way food could be delicious and we can go to eat more than necessary, but only for pleasure. The problem is when we begin to eat for pleasure and become controlled. We should be able to master the desire, although we remember the delicious taste of food.

Yes, I also agree. I also have the tendency to overeat sometimes since I loooove food of any kind and the fatty ones are just delicious. On the other hand I always make sure that I flush those bad effects out through exercise and eating foods that can burn the harm of unlikely foods.

i eat moderately always, coz if i over eat i felt bloated and it doesn't feel good, but unlike others that if they are stressed or under pressure they ate a lot and crave for so much food, in my case its different coz when i'm stressed i cant cant at all...so i might say i can control my eating.
