How do you improve your English? I am having problems with that!

learning and speaking english has become indispensable if one wants to find a niche and become successful in an international setting. i admire your desire to learn it more and more. as they say, language is a skill. thus as in any other skills, one needs to practice it to develop and improve it. be patient because it really takes time. have fun while learning it. best wishes.

I am from China, graduated a high middle school, for me, I have only the most basic foundation in English, but I like you, I like English, and fond of English, I often go to school museum to read and study, also bought a lot of English story books, then I didn't know how to use the Internet to learn English, I often run study hall, I read a lot of English books, starting from the simplest of stories. when I met the strange words and did not understand the words on the access to the english dictionary, the accumulation of vocabulary. The listening english is always my big difficulties.Because I have not the kind of English-speaking environment, so I bought a lot of English listening disk, keep listening, keep imitation, a little bit of progress. For now I am concerned, is still a major difficulty hearing. I still need to continue efforts to improve my hearing, so as to better communicate with others in English. Now I like learning on the BBC website, there are pure English, so I more easily understand. I suggest you listen every day to keep improving, there is a more efficient way to install Skype, and chat with friends directly,many members from different countries, which is the most efficient method. Come on!

The best way is to probably do what you are doing and communicate with americans that know English real well. You're right mylot is a good place to do that on. It looks like you know English pretty good. You did a good job writing your discussion in English.I wouldn't know by your discussion that you weren't an american that spoke English all of their life. Some americans don't even write English that good and they've been around English all of your life. I don't know if you have daeckardt as a friend on here or not but she likes to communicate with people that want to learn English. She is going to college to do that.

English is the great means of communication around the world. I am having the same situation that you have. I always try to watch english movies, listen english songs, try to read english books. What i realized that we cannot learn english perfectly by all that. We can understand any conversation in english but cannot reply as it should be replied. To overcome this one should have to speak and try to write with own words. That i how our vocabulary will increase effectively. I am still learning and stiil struggling to make it good because where i live no english men lives here and others can express their thoughts with weak english like me. Now i am practicing through MYLOT to read and keep writing my words. Hope I will be better soon.

What I mostly did when I was learning english was watch a lot of hollywood movies and I keep repeating what they said using the same accent. I was learning a lot and at the same time, I was also enjoying myself. The key is to enjoy your self while learning english and the good part about english movies is that it will teach you conversational english, textbook english is useful in some ways but not when talking to somebody who's a native speaker.

I still think that the pracice makes perfect. Today everything becomes much more convenient due to the internet. You can easily make foreign friends online and you will have many chances to talk to them. It will improve your oral and listening English. If you have a foriegn friend, you can make a progress in English in a short time. I love China

Try to push your writing here in mylot and read more English books. Find a job at somewhere which needs more contact with english-speaking customers. This can help you to improve your confidence in speaking english. Also, is there any news programme conducted in English? If yes, watch it every day, this can improve your listening and you might learn more vocabularies there as well.

i am keep in a status as yours,in my opinion,there is no fast way to learn english,especially in a unenglish-speaking country.After asking for many helps,first,you must practise your listening,it is most essential,besides,mylot is really a good way to learn english by responsing questions and giving discussions.

I don't think that you have any problem with this language. Whatever you have written here is grammatically correct and if you can write something, you can speak as well. There is no need to learn very difficult words. How many difficult words do you speak while speaking your mother tongue? I feel it is only in your mind that you have a problem with this language, if you think you can speak, you will not have any problems. All the best!!!

so far you are doing good practice to improve your English, the only thing that you did not mention was a face to face conversation which is great to practice your pronunciation skills and improve them. its really good and crucial to read, listen to music, watch movies, you are doing a good job, just try to find a friend or someone that can have a conversation with you at least 20 minutes a day... good luck

Hi, I am in the same situation like you. I also know very good English because it was like the second language from my country and our schools use it as a primary language for teaching. But after I married, I have to learn a new language to be able to communicate with my husband's family who doesnt know English that well. In his country, People rarely know English. And now that I learned their language, I have nobody to speak English with. I speak their language like a native and slowly I did not notice losing my English skills... I was disappointed when I spoke to my friends from home and all of them are telling me how I lost my accent and I totally sound like a different person now. THat's why I came back to reading and writing. I don't have problems with my written English, my problem is with my spoken English. Right now, I am practicing again to speak, but having a book at hand and reading it aloud. I do it everyday, and it helped a lot. Practice makes perfect and you have to use it when you can.

yeah the way i imporove my english is is listening the english song, watching the movies, and discuss in my lot, :P yeah discuss in my lot give you chance to improve your english although maybe my grammar, structure, vocabulary wrong but i am have trying.
