Hello Dear Philippe! In fact I have come to this discussion to see if you have got any real remedial measures to cure your 'Impulsive Buying' syndrome, as I am also suffering from the same syndrome! LOL!
In fact I stay away from the township and hardly get time to go out on regular basis! Once in a fort night or so we go for shopping at the nearest Mall which is situated about 50 Kilometers away from my place! So perhaps because of the accumulated boredom in me I think I become excited and do shopping to the fullest of my satisfaction! many a times I get the things which are of no use to me at the given time! Still I purchase them!
I think, this syndrome doesn't have any cure. I think self discipline is the only thing that can cure this, but people like us find it difficult to have one! LOL! Thanks for the discussion! I enjoyed participating in it!

i know this problem too well. but i think you have answered the question yourself of what is happening. you talk about the accumulated boredom inside you, that makes you want to spend when you get to the shop.
i think that is a similar experience to mine, i don't know if it was accumulated boredom, but there was definitely something inside that made me want to spend too much money. i don't spend much now, but i have no idea what changed, unfortunately. as if anyone worked out how to fix this they could probably make a fortune.
but i think the different reasons why people have an emotion inside them that makes them want to spend too much money, are probably as many as there are people.

Hi philippe,
I think, there is no cure for impulsive buying as long as you've got plenty of money in your wallet. The desire to buy is always there because money is available. Why not try imagery. Imagine yourself not buying anything for one day. Do that again the next day, and so on. And, leave your money behind at home, bring only a few bills to spare for important things. You must also have a checklist of what to buy when you go out. I hope this helps. Good luck!

When going to the supermarket try buying just the items on your shopping list. These will be things to eat, drink and for your household like kitchen rolls. You could try drinking tap water if it is safe to do so where you live. You could avoid looking in shop windows in the High Street. You could say no to buying anymore books or magazines. Good luck.

Try to avoid going to the big mall. Since you often see the promotion there and therefore sometimes you will lose your logic and buy something that you don't want at present. Or having a shopping list when you go shopping. It may avoid your impulsive purchase.

I try things like don't buy something now, and go home and think about it. If I still want it in a week's time then I probably really want it, otherwise I didn't really want it enough to buy it. This will at least stop impulse buying.
I have read tricks like putting your credit card in the freezer, or just leaving it and most of your money at home.
I think there is also a shopaholics anonymous group you could join.

yea i still do that sometimes to... i try to save money and not spend it on anything not important... but then when i go to a store and see something i really want and i have the money for it... i just usually end up buying it... what i try to do is leave my money or bank card at home... so that when i go to the store and that happens i can't get the item or items anyways because i can't pay for them... :) i hope this helps you

It is sometimes difficult to cure but if you are determined to stop it, there is a way. I am an impulsive buyer, maybe because it is really fun to shop and acquire new things. The best thing I can do is to avoid shopping malls or going there frequently. I also make a list of all the important things to buy so I have a focus. When I concentrate on that I have a greater chance to avoid impulsive buying but if I don't plan, I have a tendency to buy anything that attracts me.
