We are all aquainted with long distance relationships . With improvement and advancement of modern technologies it seems no more a wacky idea . Infact many people are successfully pursuing it .But there are a lot of others who had to suffer a lot at the end . I would like to know from my fellow members here about their experiences . Has such relationship been a boon or a curse in your life ?

I have involved in a lot of long distance relationships before, the longest I can stand was two years. It is difficult because eventually, I will start to think, this is it? No more further step? Am I have to stay this way forever? I see no future in those relationship. It's really hard to make someone move away from their home because it was hard for me too to move and leave things that are familiar with my life over something that is still blur. We can't promise anything to each other. It is really hard. Someone has to really give up and just trust the other one.

Thank you so much yushi1905 for joining here. Your viewpoint is quite sensible but as you know love is blind and we cannot always be so calculative in establishing a relationship whether long or short distance . It is a fact that long distance relationships involve a lot of patience ,acceptance , adjustment and the most important of all these is trust .It is hard for many to compromise with all these . The rest depends on providence and this is true for all kinds of relationships .

I'm in a long distance relationship right now. I really miss her so much now that she had been gone for so long already and I haven't been able to visit her after so long. All I can say is it's hard at first but as time goes by, it'll settle down.

I was traveling around the world when I was 20 to 21 years old. On a train I met a man and we got on very well. We ended up going into a relationship together. I spent months with him in Queensland, Australia. Then I carried on my trip due to the end date of my working holiday visa approaching. We stayed in contact with phone calls and letters. Once I got back home a letter took 5 to 7 days to reach him in Australia. He came over to England and we got married. Our marriage lasted 6 years before we got divorced.
Nowadays we live in a society which has mobile phones, email and see the face conserations on the computer. When I was in my thirties I met a man on a walk in Dover. He came from Lanchashire and I came from Kent. We began a long distance relationship and saw each other once every two weeks. We kept in contact with messages by mobile phone and emails. I was very sad when we split up after just 8 months. Though I would say that modern technology is better these days for long distance relationships.

I have never been in a long distance relationship though I have known some of my friends who are in such a relationship.Personally I do not believe in long-distance relationships even though many say they have been successful in maintaining such an affair.I think it is important to stay in touch, meet each other at least few times a month no matter how busy both partners may be and spend some quality time together.I do not feel that a relationship or bonding can remain strong without personal contact. After all we are all human beings. In the beginning both lovers may feel that their relationship will remain though they may remain away from each other for a long span of time but ultimately I think such relationships do not last because a lot of problems like insecurity and suspicion may step in.

Thanks oindy54 for your comment.Perceptions may vary but in today's world long distance relationships are not a foolish idea altogether.Technologies help a lot to stay connected . In today's fast world many couples living under the same roof hardly get time to maintain regular physical relation. Relationship doesnot always relate to physical relation. We can stay apart yet be close to each other ,that's love. My friend was in such a relationship for five years and now married to her boyfriend and settled in his country . She says their intense love for each other , mutual trust and respect and an eagerness to keep the relationship going made it successful .

It has been a blessing. I met my love online initially and we have been together dating going on our third year now. I am finally with her but for the first two years I had to visit and leave again and was only able to once. If it wasn't for technology I don't think it would have been as well handled. I love her with all my heart and being here with her finally is the greatest thing in the world.

Why is it so ? Don't you love her ? Usually people want to be always near to their loved ones ,only if the sitution demands they are forced to live apart . What is the situation in your case that makes you feel so ?
