I haven't been to Mainland, China but have been to Hongkong. Well, I guess Hongkong is a tourist and shopping destination and represents more of the consumer friendly side of China. But I do hope to visit Mainland China soon, most probably Beijing and Shanghai. I believe these cities are well developed already and lots of tourist attractions to see. And I think the ancient/historical spots are maintained in spite of these cities being industrialized. I can say that for China, it is a fusion of the old and new.

i am agree with you ,but it isn't just the combination of old and new ,it's also associated with rich and poverty, development in shanghai is ok indeed ,meanwhile ,in my hometown ,i can hardly see a building taller than a tree.and by the way,the appartment price is way out of league people can afford.
