Pop music has been dominating our radios, televisions and basically everything. All the teenagers are screaming for their favorite pop music artists and these pop artists are making billions. Pop music is great but what about the other genres of music? I do like pop music but I mainly love punk, alternative and indie. They haven't been quite as successful as the amazing pop artists as they're not as prevalently recognized. So what are your favorite types of music that people generally don't listen to? Do you still go to your favorite artists' concerts? Still buy their albums? All my friends are into the popular stuff and I never mention about my taste in music as they just make fun out of it.

hi triple0! in the early 2000's i can say that punk, alternative and indie ruled the airwaves. But then came titans like lady gaga, katy perry, rain and the like..flash forward to 10 years later, they tagged 2010 as "the year that went pop". truly, the music scene changes and evolves like hairdos, fashion trends and cellphone models. i love rock, punk, and indie too.. but every time i hear pop songs that deserved to be listened to, i truly appreciate 'em.. it's totally okay to listen to various types of music.. as long as you're cool and having fun! :)

I see, it pretty much revolves around pop culture. Fashion and trends are constantly changing and right now it's pop that's dominating the charts right now. Still, it's good to know that other music genres are still appreciated.

Hi there! I must admit that I also like to listen to punk/alternative music and not all artists I listen to are widely popular. However I also like some quite popular bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers or U2. But yea, I'm into rock music and it doesn't matter for me if artist is popular or not, music is the main thing!

It's great to know that you listen to punk and alternative. Most of my friends are into the pop stuff so I don't get to share my favorite type of music with them. Good to know there's several supporters. Got to keep the other music genres alive and going!

I have to say I am a fan of pop but, I also like indie too. I never really go to any concerts or gigs though as it is not something I really have time for at the moment but, when I was like 17/18 I used to go out to stuff like that all the time although it tended to be more local bands and stuff rather than well known ones.

Yeah. The well known ones are just too expensive and not to mention the large suffocating crowd. It's good to go to the local or small ones. The more the merrier for them!

I'm not sort of a fan of pop music rather i choose my own songs depending on my mood. whether soft ballad, rock, alternative, jazz etc. as long as i can relate into it.

Hmm... choosing a song based on mood. Cool.

The thing is most punk rockers (green day) heavy metal rockers (metallica) aren't hot guys and hot girls. I personnally love mettalica, green day, iron maiden, scorpions and bands like that but I think its cause the girls are attracted to the guy on stage (justin beiber or nick jonas) cause most guys I know listen to what i listen to metal!

You have a good point there, I have a friend who is just obsessed with Nick Jonas and her whole world basically revolves around him. His good, but not the type of music I'm into. There are hot guys and girls in punk or alternative bands. Just they're generally not most people's type.

Hey Triple0, I do very much agree to the fact that pop is taking over the mainstream and i am getting very annoyed with it. I, for one, am a metal head. but nowadays people look as if that is a bad thing. i don't understand how people can follow such a crowd like the pop crowd and then turn their noses up at people who listen to a different style of music. And i mean, all the new pop is, is techno beats with some dude or chick singing over them. i really do not understand the pop culture.

I don't mind pop music, it's just that other music genres such as punk or heavy metal aren't as recognized compared to the dominating pop culture. I love punk, alternative, screamo and indie but if my friends heard a bit of it. They would just give me a funny look or criticize my taste in music. Well, everyone is different and simply be proud of what you love and enjoy!
