So we are renting our house out since were living in another state for the time. I decided against property managers and so this on my own. possibly my first mistake. My husband found some guys to rent it whom he worked with. Possibly my second mistake. The had to pay a security deposit and they have to pay rent and they signed a contract. I had one guy move since he was stationed elsewhere. He had only been there a month so I gave him his security back and talked to him. I figured he couldnt do any damage. Now this could be another mistake, but really there was and possibly still is no damage, except for when he left he left the one window that you can gain into the house easily wide open, didnt turn on the alarm and there is another window open. The house is empty due to guys being out to sea. If it wernt for my neighbors mowing the lawn, because the guys didnt set something up like I asked, checking the mail, because they didnt stop it and now my one tenant who moved left it wide open I wouldnt know this. Without going through the window were waiting for the garage dorr opener to arrive so he can gain entrance and lock up the house and make sure there is no damage. Is it so hard to lock up a house that will be empty so no one gets in and there is no weather related damage?

This is absolutely unacceptable, when they are in need they act as if we are the savior of their life and when things are accomplished they act in such a way that who cares what and this is not mine so why should I worry about that. This is ridiculous and not acceptable at all. They will only realize when they experience the same situation. God will send a message to them and hope they will understand how it would be if we create troublesome to others.

I know. The one guy leaves it unsecure and now I have to jump to make sure everyones belongings are safe. House gets broken into though not my problem. I just want to prevent damage to my property. Its crazy how they can do waht they want and I can tell them over and over make sure the property is secure, locked, mail stopped set up lawn care, they dont do it so I have to deal with it. If I do nothing than Im a bad landlord. I think tenants have to many rights. Thats why they dont care either. The landlord has to fix it so I can do what I want. Not only do I need to make sure my tenants are happy but the neighbors as well. So sure the lawn could grow while their gone and they cld do it when they get home and I cld leave the mail in the box for them to deal with, but than it attracts bad company. I feel like not only am I raising my kids and dealing with my life now Im raising adults as well and taking care of them in their lack of responsiblity. Its so frustrating.

hi tink91879 maybe because people doesn't care about someones property because they are not the one who bought that thing , people cannot afford to buy so they barrow it and they will not take good care of it. It can be also that they are insecure so they try to destroy, so that there friend or room mate will buy a new one

They arent destroying it, but definatly arent showing respect by not locking it up when leaving. Than putting the house in danger and the other tenants belongings. In my contract they are responsible for all appliances left behind. Everything is in good working order and if they break due to them they have to pay for it. We also had a new septic in and it is checked once a year they can tell is the ppl arent taking care of it and its in the contract the septic should not fail and if found they have to replace it, which is very costly.

Locking up a house is not difficult in the least. People don't care about another person's property simply because they just don't care. It's the truth.

Thats it. Its sad, but true. Not only is my property in danger, but the tenant who still reside there. Their belongings are sitting in a open house.

I don't exactly have the same situation in terms of property mishandling, but my girlfriend does. See, she lives with officemates as per company policy, and they reside in a boarding house. Now there's this one housemate/officemate that irritates her, and I totally understand why. She keeps on using my girlfriend's stuff! And it didn't only happen once, IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! Can't she even be sensitive enough to feel that what she's doing is so wrong? Not to mention disrespectful!

I think ppl have taken respect and thrown it out the door. You can explain to some one a hundred times over and ppl just dont care.
