A pleasant day to you Fellow Mylotters, When I was still a kid, my dreamed was to be an employee in a big company. Wearing those nice clothes, high heeled shoes with matching shoulder bag. And it was granted. For so many years, I was and were an employee within those big companies. And after those years, I have dreamed of having my own business. A business that I will manage under my own supervision. Things goes swiftly, as my mother supports me then. But, one time, it was so surprising, my mom approach me and she told me, why not to try to apply for a job again. I really feel upset during that time, that my mom pushes me again to be an employee. I am thinking, why my mom wants to see me again to be an employee. As far as I know, generally, no employee becomes rich after working so long for a period of time in a company.

I agree with you. We can't become to be rich if we're staffs. However, we can study much experience to manage our private company in the future. As a staff, we can save more money to build our company and we can look for the chance for business. I think that you should have a full plan and you must be patient. Wish you're successful.

Yes I agree with you absolutely, I aslo want to develop my own business, but I don't have enough money to bear the risk, because I know it is very hard for one person who don't have the experience for establishing the business

You are definitely right. Employees always work under their bosses, get bossed around and made to do difficult tasks but never often a pay raise or promotion, unless they are lucky that the company is profiting. But you have to see which type of employee you are. There are the small employees, the directors and the CEO. CEOs are also considered employees of the company except that they have a much bigger share and have the most say. Directors can be entitled to pay raise while small employees don't get that much benefits. I'm currently a student and will be going on internship soon. After I graduate from polytechnic and university, I'll work in a small company first, then move to a larger company, see how the situation goes, then consider getting out to do my own business, at a younger age, say 30+ ? Not to forget office politics, which is often occurring in the company and small employees especially, have to face these things everyday and get backstabbed too if they are unlucky, so as to have their fellow colleagues get to the top position. Employees will always be employees. If you say rich, then they would just have to try their luck at lottery

Yes it's true, but i think it's not really applicable to all employees who have worked for so long in a company. One example is my immediate supervisor. Her story is really from rags to riches. She started as accounting clerk at our company, then she got promoted as Executive Assistant, then got promoted again now she's actually one of the senior vice president of our company, she's handling 5 corporations and other special projects. And now she's still employed but she was able to earn enough money put up her own business. So I guess it really depends on the person itself.

That's true. No need to be a super genius that as employee, you earn a limited income that is determined by the company where you are employed. Think of those people who became rich. They invested, use their talent to their advantage. Efforts were exerted in such a way that could generate maximum profit while minimizing the the loss. Furthermore, they became expert in their field because of continually learning the trade they are in.

Are you self employed on the internet or you open your own business like online shop or offline shop? To me I understand that when you are not doing well in your business then your mother will push you out again. Maybe she wanted you to know more people like my mother. I haven't got married so that's why she object me to work at home so much.

Yes, you can never become rich working for a big company, the company policy and your big boss will never allow that to happen, it is just a fantasy to think otherwise. To strike rich, you need to own your business and expand your entrepreneurs spirit and talent, then your chances of becoming rich will be enormous. COntinue to work for big company will only make your big boss rich, not yourslef, it is an undeniable fact of every working man and woman.

I totally agree with you. For me, I did not go to college, came out to work, then find a good job is not easy, after 10 years of work as a employee, my life has not become wealthy, but increasingly hated it kinds of time-control work, if meet the emotional owner, life even more gets bad. You now have the opportunity to make y our own life and to be boss, to seize the opportunity and hard work, don't to be employee again,it does not makes us rich.

I definitley agree with you that being an employee will never earn as much as an employer provided that the employee is working for that employer. I will choose to be an employee myself because I do not want to take so much risk like the employer does. I kind of understand why your mum said that to you because she do not want you to have so much risk but being an employee is not easy as well as they are always under their employer's pressure. Anyway, just do what you would like to carry on as no one else should be as clear as how you feel and what situation you are in now.

Hi Airasheila! I happen to start a similar discussion a few months back although I can't find the link to that discussion anymore. If I remember it right it was titled "Nobody gets rich by just being employed". Well I guess you need to talk about it with your mom about why she wants you to find a job. I know she only wants the best for you. I guess she is just concerned that the income generated by your business may not be sufficient to sustain you for life. You know how moms are. But if you are confident of what you are doing, why not assure her that it will be okay. Share your views why you don't want to be an employee and she may understand and fully support you. I think you are doing great. Don't let things like this dissuade you but take it as a challenge to be successful in what you do. Good Luck!

airasheila -- You are correct. You are already an employer. I do not know u are giving employment for how many people. But it is good to continue as an employer and take up employment for the simple reason you may not be able to continue working under another person. Your mother is telling like this because you are not spending time with her or probably u appear very tensed most of the time. Think.

Well this is quite true. As Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad and Poor Dad reiterates, being an employee entails you to stay in the rat race. If your goal is to be rich and financially free, being an employee won't get you anywhere there. But of course, life isn't all about being rich. There are things that you can experience in life being an employee which is a good thing. I suggest tobe an employee while having businesses too. This way you can make the most out of life being a rich employee on the way.

I agree that it is always best to be an employer than be an employee. But being an employee also have an advantage sometimes. You learn... and you grow as a n individual. And those lessons you learned from the bottom, you can use those when you reach the tope as you pursue on your own. If you have your own business... I dont see any reason for you to go back to becoming an employee though, you can just do better and concentrate on your own business.

You are right I have never heard of an employee getting rich working for a big company. You are able to get rich by owning your own company and working very hard and long hours. Its not easy by any means but it is definitely achievable, if its what you really want. I worked for an engineering firm for twenty-five years and then for a hospital. It paid the mortgage, bills, clothed my two girls and put food on the table. In that sense I could feel rich because if you can accomplish all that with a paycheck you are rich especially nowadays. Thankfully I have now retired earlier the I anticipated and mortgage paid off and credit card debt free. That to me is being rich. I guess being rich is different for all. Good luck in your endeavors.
