Are colorful blogs a bad idea?

I usually add color to the text in my blogs so that it seems more lively and looks better for my readers. Is this a bad idea? Both professional and personal opinions are welcome!

Well, in my personal opinion, I'm not a big fan of colorful text in blogs. Or even uneven font sizes. I tend to get overwhelmed, especially if it's a new blog that I'm visiting. I know that you'd like for your blog to be inviting and interesting. That's just my take on things. Happy Mylotting!

Occasionally using color in the text of your blogs to emphasize something may be beneficial, but I wouldn't make a habit of it. Depending on the colors you chose, they may be difficult for the reader to view. If your readers have a difficult time reading your blog they are less likely to continue visiting it. Also, when using a splash of color for emphasis I would avoid using more than one color, besides black, in an entry because it would be too distracting.

I think a very colorful blog will give others an impression that this blog is not very professional. Since a formal blog will be simple and clear. It won't attract others by the colorful and complex design. It pays attention to the content. I love China

Yes more colorful blog can distract your visitors from real information from your blog. And that is not at all recommended when you are putting your effort to write good content. So it is advisable to use standard color combination. And yes more funky colors can be used if your blog subject matches.

I think everyone is in agreement about this so I'll have to change the colors. But seobuzz, by "standard color combination", what do you mean? For example my blog is primarily green. Can I make my font green as well?

"Can I make my font green as well?" Yes you can, as long as the background aren't in similar green too :)) Better to use font color that is contrast with your background color :)

It could be need and situation based-sometimes blogs might need to have more colors used. At other times, plain black and whites would do well.

Hi, mohammed3. It is not really a bad idea, the colors shouldn't be so bright though. If you are representing a professional company of some sort, then the color should not be so colorful. When using colorful blogs, the best decision to go by would be to use the correct color that would go well with the blog itself.

The simplest thing to point out is if you look at professional websites and popular blogs the majority of them stick to the same colour scheme that of dark text on a white background, with maybe a touch of colour to highlight links and titles. The reason being is that it is proven to be the most readable format. Now if you are looking to have a professional and popular blog then I would stick to what has been proven and from a personal point of view I prefer the normal look. But if you are just blogging for fun, for something to do and express your ideas and emotions then I wouldn't worry, just enjoy yourself and use colour as a form of expression.

I think a colorful blog is for people, however the text and seo are for the search engine bots. So before people get to your site, you need to have something for the search engine bots. As for colors for humans, if you mix the colors well the average person would like it, however for people with eye sight issues, you might want to consider some colors like blue, green white

In my personal opinion if you are using colour on text, it is better to use light colour instead of dark because dark need more eye stress as compared to light colour. Only important text can coloured which may highlight the content or important part of content

Putting colors on blogs is okay because it can make your blog more appealing however, you need to put in a good color that is more contrasting and not harsh to the eyes. Monochromatic and color-blocking makes a sophisticated layout on your blog site. Such as putting a simple black and white layout wherein it’s clean, and is easily to be read by your blog viewers.
