Just wondering how many of us here would read reviews before deciding on your new purchases, so I thought I'd just like to share this article from CNET to help.
Honestly, I was actually considering of getting the HTC Thunderbolt and I am glad that I read this in time to change my mind. I find the article relevant where the trouble are various starting with awkward size for easy usage, portability to the rampant poor battery life.
Now, I just have to admit that I have yet to see the implementation of solar energized cellphone, where batteries could be charged automatically during broad daylight in addition to the conventional charging via AC.
Lastly, I hope that you will be encouraged to share your experiences with your current or previous phones for all to learn and experience.
Have a nice day.

This is good information. I am not much into all the new fan-dangled phones they keep coming out with. I still have the first phone I got when I took out the phone. I don't use it except to talk to people.

I have no intention of trading in my phone it has been reliable for the past 10 years and will still be here when I am laid to rest. I have no need of the iPod, iPad, Kindle, wifi or any of that useless stuff.
If however I do want to upgrade to the newer devices I will log into Big Crumbs and purchase one from one of the member stores, that way I get discount and cash back on the purchase.
Thanks for the offer of independent reviews I will let you know if I need the URL.

manleyjoe,
I believe like the first respondent, I hope that you will not be discouraged by adverse reviews from independent panels like this one. For one, they are basically there to help us decide on a better and suitable set for yourself.
I hope that you will try to encompass the changes for one, the latest phones actually allows you to have an all in one equipment where the days of carrying a bag full of gadgets like iPod, digital camera and other peripherals are nearly or all gone. I am sure you will appreciate the technologies that comes along with these phones, so do take some time to visit your local cellphone service provider before your current set breaks down and beyond repair.
If you are considering and would like to know where to read independent reviews just let me know and I will be glad to provide you some useful sites.

The solar energized phone is only a dream.
You simply can't charge completely the phone under the sun, you have to consider the small size of the solar panel and the overheat of the phone, and of course,of the battery too.
I bought a 5v 425mah panel, connected with the phone with an usb cable,if you use the phone with wifi on,some overclock and 1 or 2 applications, the power from the solar panel is simply not enough. And we're talking about a solar panel that is about 4 times bigger than a panel that we can put on a normal phone with a 3" screen.

But electronics on calculators are more simple :) We don't have a 600/1ghz cpu,256/512mb of ram,no gps,no wifi module, no storage, and we don't have a li-ion battery...also,the power consumption of a clock or a calculator is very little compared to a normal smartphone, you can power that with a little amorphous silicon panel :)

deejlux,
I see that you have a point here on the power consumption part but I seem to get the feeling that the phone makers are holding this due to cost factor and marketing reasons.
Much more for the latter, where handsets aren't really the actual money raking business nowadays but accessories like batteries.

deejlux,
I have to correct your impression about heat problems with these solar energized batteries by pointing out that calculators and even wrist watches are already using alternate energy to conventional batteries.
I believe these appliances does not even need direct sunlight to energize and operate, so I do not see why and how the cell phones aren't catching up on this.

I am surprised to hear that. Today one of the most popular operating systems for the cellphone is Android. If I don't consider an iPhone, I may buy an Android cellphone in the future. Currently I am still using Widnows mobile. I think the battery is always a problem for all the smartphones. Since it provides more features, so it makes sense that the battery will be run out soon. You have to know that iPhone just doesn't allow you use the backup battery. So I will feel very worried when I use it since if I can't find somewhere to charge it, my phone will not work. I have five backup batteries for my cellphone now:) If the Android cellphone shall be avoided, then what else shall we buy now? And I agree with you that the cellphone companies shall think more ways for a longlasting battery, such as the solar one. But it means to say that they can't sell more cellphone accessories and it means that their profit will be less. Perhaps this is their trick that there will never be a perfect cellphone?:)
I love China

youless,
I wonder if your phone could actually upgrade the OS where I have read in other reviews that the phone actually optimize battery usage much better with the latest operable OS like the Android 2.2.
So, you may want to check for any available upgradable firmware for your current phone. I just cannot imagine carrying 5 backup batteries, and I have to say that your phone really could drain at a fast rate. This is also another reason why I did not choose a mobile operating on Windows Mobile OS.
Lastly, I suppose this is also the reason for you to upgrade to a new set perhaps an Android or iPhone.

Thank you. I did not know what android phones were. i am sending this article to all and it is so good. I use a Blackberry for the past 2 years and have not had any problems with it. My big, big, wish is to have an Ipad as my sister has one and I was playing around with it recently and I fell in love with it. Especially the part about downloading books. I just so want one. Perhaps one day

cynthiann,
I am glad that you've found this useful as well.
On the iPad make sure you get the latest iPad2 and FYI it comes with an option 3G connectivity. But, before you rush into it, you may want to check out the latest tablets touch pads from HP which I feel is going to give iPad2 a run for its money. At least, those who appreciates expanded memory and flash availability with the HP tablets. Also, cheaper than the Apple iPad.
Take a look.

Thank you but I read all about it and understand that I would have to buy accessories like the charger but I cannot find out the price. I do not see the price anywhere. I am presuming that it has a screen keyboard so I would not have to buy this accessory. I am going to call a local computer store and see the local price. Probably twice the price than if bought in the USA but if I can get enough money I will purchase it when my daughter goes up to the USA for Thanksgiving. She could try to get it on 'black Friday'. Now there is a plan

Hi skysuccess !
Wow !
Now that was really some useful information. Thanks for posting it. A lot of other android phones out there too have technical issues. But knowing the name of some big brands suffering from these issues definitely help in taking a good decision.

When it comes to cell phones, well, I am a big Sony Ericsson fan.
I really enjoy ericssons more than any samsung, LG, HTC or nokia. Most of the nokias become slow with increasing load on their memory.
I had a sony ericsson K320i model for a long time, since I was in high school and I really enjoyed its company. Though it didn't had any special attractive features and having no expandable memory, you could upload only 2 song at most; but its compatibility and the range of softwares you could use with it were really amazing. Now I enjoy my pal's Xperia... :)

Lol. Depends of what device are you talking about.
I get about 1.5 days with internet ALWAYS ON, Wifi connection for about 3hrs a day, about 250 whatsapp messages everyday, some photos and a couple of calls.
And believe me,the battery is in good but not optimal conditions.
What about your Nokia phone, how do you use it?

shayne134,
I have to ask that you be more open to the changes that the new technology brings and to encompass it. I can understand a certain hesitation on your part but you have to remember that at the end of the day you will still need to upgrade the current handset of yours due to certain reasons like discontinuity of support service and parts.
On the other hand, there are still some brands and models that are reputable and does not have the glaring faults to choose from. Just take your time to find out more and try them at your local cellular phone shops for a hands on feel before deciding on one.
Take care and have a nice day.

Exactly! before purchasing or buying up new things we should search for the disadvantage and advantages on each item you like. Android phones today are very rampant but I think some people wanted android because of its wifi connection which android's best features to detect wifi immediately.
Thank you for your info about the solar energized cellphone. I didn't know their such kind of phones. You are very helpful. Thanks a lot.

jmay1226,
I have to add that we would be foolish if we do not make use of such independent reviews to help us further understand what we are about to buy. These appliances are not cheap and once purchased does not allow us to switch about easily.
So, be safe than sorry.
