Co-workers complain with something not supposed to complain about!

This isn't my story, it's my girlfriend's. But I'd like to share this. See, there's her officemates, who keep complaining why a new co-worker - who has gained a lot of experience that is proven useful to their line of work - has a higher pay compared to them. I'd like to mention that these complainers came from jobs which are not much related to their current field. But it's just so odd of them to complain about this! It's annoying, disrespectful, and pathetic at the same time. Any ideas/comments about this?

My friend is also in the same predicament. There have been talks around her new office because she is paid higher than most of the people working there for a long time. I guess it was because of the fact that she has more experience at the same time has gathered a lot of certificates and licenses.
I don't really know why people are like that. Perhaps it's what they call 'crab mentality'. I just hope that they don't cause much damage to those who are there for the right reasons - which is to earn a good income for the family.
