I worked with a mink advisor who is from Holland for almost one and half years before, you know, he is not a native Englsih speaker, but his spoken English is not bad and I learned a lot from him. However that is not enough to be qualified for the job of translator, sometimes I am very embarrassed when I can't understand what the customers say in the business meeting. How to avoid such case? Do you have any good idea?

I think you need to take care of some papers first before you become qualified to become an english translator. Plus, you also have to appear and sound confident. If you're not, people will see you as lame.

You can be qualified if you took a subject in Foreign languages. Here in the Philippines, we offer such courses like Linguistics, European languages, etc. Of course it is highly accepted if you are a graduate of these courses. Exceptional cases are given to those people who have learned that by culture, by lifestyle or by country. As long as you apply and skilled in translating it very well, no doubt you can be a translator.. wow! big income.. :)

There are courses and educational programes where you can become a qualified English translator. Or if you are a very skilled English speaker who know the correct grammar having a perfect usage of English you can probably take a test at some university or college to get a certification as proof of your skills.
