I have been on the phone with the foodstamp people since eight thins morning and still now answer. I had to do this yesterday and they did not answer at all! Ug. I have to keep calling back to get their fax number so I can finish up on my case but this is ridiculas. I have been down there in person before and it's not usualy becuase they are busy...it's because they don't care to pick up the phone until a certain time and refuse to do so until then. I have seen this a lot and it just makes me so mad that they are so insensitve. I mean I would not be doing this if I did not abolutely needed it in the first place. Ug what is your opinion? Am I over reacting?

I live in a small town. Therefore, we have a small population, and an equally small Social Services office. Well, my caseworker NEVER answers her phone, nor does she call me back. I always turn in my paperwork to her two months in advance so that she will have plenty of time to process it. Does she bother? No. When I had my son two years ago, she lost the paperwork and didn't bother to tell me. So what happened? He had already been born before I received any benefits. Thankfully, Medicaid paid for everything anyway. And the last time my food account was up for review? Once again, my paperwork was in her hand two months in advance. Well, the first of the month came and went, and there was no money on it. I called. Same old game. I called every day at least twice, and was not able to talk to her. She never called me back. I went to the office, and they said that she was busy. Two weeks later, I had some hungry kids, and she didn't care. You know what I did? Instead of calling her supervisor in the same office (I knew that she wouldn't care, either), I went a step up and called the state's district office. It was after 5, so I had to leave a message. But bright and early the next morning, the district rep called me. I told her what was going on, and she said "let me see what I can do". Not even 15 minutes later, she called me back and said that she had personally talked to my case worker and her direct supervisor, and my money was being put on the card as we were speaking. She verified with me that nothing had been processed before I called her. As soon as I hung up the phone, I called for the balance, and low and behold, there it was!! I probably made an enemy for life that day, but I had some hungry kids. My review is coming up soon....I wonder if I'll have to call District this time. LOL. Good luck!! I know what a pain they can be. And I've overheard how badly they talk about people like me that need a little extra help. I am not a bad person. I have a job. I am in college so that I can pay for my kids to have a better life. I just made bad choices when it came to men. LOL. No. You are definitely NOT overreacting. My opinion is that the government needs to re-man their offices and get people in there who care. I know that some of them actually do, but not here where I live.

I hate it when you need to get hold of someone and you just can't get through to them no matter how hard you try. It's extra annoying, as it means that you're trying your absolute hardest while they, on the other end, can't even be bothered to find enough staff to cope with the number of phone calls that they expect to receive during that period of time. You'd think they should how many people usually ring and then make plans accordingly, but some companies are just entirely unprofessional and don't seem to have a clue at all.

Is this a government office? It's funny that wherever it is, government offices are like that. I've worked in Asia, and it's the same as here. People get so comfortable in their positions and make up rules like that, not answering phones before a certain time. It frustrates the people they are 'trying' to help.

My husband and I quit sending the papers back in because they always lost them. Then they would tell us that they never received them. Now we always walk them in and make a copy of the papers in case they conveniently lose them.

It seems like they would move into the 21st century and allow you to contact them and conduct any business necessary online. How frustrating!!

catof` I know this well, for one thing surely they nmust know when we apply for food stamps and all its because we are in dire need, we would not put ourselves in this humiliating position unless we needed your help, you insensitive case worker so please answer the phone. Some few are sensitive but most when I was in need were very blase and not inclined to be of any real help or hurry either one.No you are not overreacting. some on the food stamp line are just plain non caring at all. I am so glad my own situation is past all that. I have been through that and its really demeaning the way they treat one. sham on them

For me yes but first you called on the phone just prayed to Jehovah God that he can heal the heart of the one whom you called too and they answered you.

It is the heights of something that is really not acceptable! I will screw their happiness if they are really not doing their job and in turn come up with something that is not related to the issue and make life more miserable.
