And it not only didn't look so good but the taste wasn't very impressive too!! Somehow it did smell good
I am so tired of cooking. I put on so much effort but still they don't taste good
I do everything as instructed but the result is never the same!! Why????
What should I do?

Do you use a wok? My mom has made fried rice before and it was delicious. I know she used a wok, scrambled an egg, and put in soy sauce. Then she added chicken and steak bits. It actually came out really well. What do you do when you try and make your fried rice?

Why put chicken in shrimp fried rice? I don't like his recipe. No wonder it didn't taste good. My own is very simple. I just use a a bag of frozen mixed veggies. It's also better to use day old rice so I hear but I never use day old rice and it still comes out fine.

HI friend!
This is my advice to you- Make another one or make another recipes!!!Practice makes perfect friend! It is true...I am not good in cooking to but wit more practice i get familiar with it- this is just for foods that I used to cook. There was a food I don't know how to called in English. It is actually a very simple and easy food to make but it always turned hard, no taste and the shape is not like the original looks. I spend a few years to master it and now I can do it in a round beautiful shape with a better taste! So don't give up and cook for another fried rice tomorrow!(^^)

Hehe thanks you guys **hugs** And yes like you guys said, practise does make one perfect. I can make good sunny side up eggs and would have been doomed if I were not able to make one now. I have been making them over and over for 10 years now and that was prolly one of the first things I learned how to make hehe!!

Hi thatgirl!
Maybe you just have a different taste? I mean, when we cook, we taste what we are cooking, right? Maybe what's nice for you is different from others?
I used to try cooking a lot, too. But I got tired of it. Although I cooked some dish fine, some would really be bad.
And I realized I'm better at eating rather than cooking so I stopped trying.

If you have the passion, you'll definitely succeed! Why not try cooking classes?

I would love some cooking classes but I do not have the time, nor the money as of yet
Maybe after school's over and when I'm having a break.

Well, it depends on how you cooked it. For example, did you fry it for too short or for too long? Did it have enough salt? Did you use egg? Fried rice without egg isn't the same.
Cooking requires practice, and you will fail at first, but as you try more times the taste will become better and better. Just try to do it slightly different each time until you find the good point of fried rice

Anyway thanks for the response. i will keep on trying till I one day be able to cook good. Thanks once again!!

Yes, once in a while we really tried something from left overs so as not to put it to waste, I mean the extra rice.Since you have said you have followed as what is instructed but still for you the taste is not that good.Maybe you can try it next time and make some adjustment according to your taste.Constant practice makes perfect.

You could try to experiment by making it simple. Then when you are satisfied with your cooking you can innovate your own fried rice by adding some ingredients that appeal to you.

Hi thatgirl!
Like most things in life cooking is one of those things that gets better the more you try. Don't give up and continue to try and one day you will get much better at it.
I have to say that usually when you try a new recipe and are not a cook to begin with, don't be upset but it usually does not come out good. Review the link again and recall what you did. Perhaps you over cooked it a bit as this is why I think the smell was not that great. Sometimes over cooking the chicken will cause this to happen. Don't forget that nothing is perfected in one go and one try.

Hey thank you hardworkingurl
Hopefully I'll get good with time and practice.
I have no idea what I did wrong and I still feel I did everything exactly as told and I even kept looking at the time so as to not over do or under do something. Anyway I guess something was amiss there that is why it didn't even turn out close to good.
Anywya I will keep trying again thanks

You forgot to put your toe in it didnt you? Haha. Just kidding in case you haven't heard that before. I think its a very funny saying and it makes me laugh every-time my hubby says "I must have put my toe in it" I sometimes will tell him not only did I put my toe in, I put my whole foot in it!! But anyways, the trick is in simmering and browning your food. I always deviate from the recipe. They usually just need a little twist of your own. Like add sauteed onions. Now shrimp friend rice I have never made from scratch, but I have heated from a frozen bag! Hahaha. Did you put a scrambled egg in it? And something else to think of is Frozen veggies are better in something like that as they have a little crisp to them as long as they arent cooked to long. Maybe try something much easier and an american dish, try out adding things to it to enhance flavor and just take your time and really think about what will compliment the meal. And have Fun with it,. dont beat yourself up over yuck dishes. just keep trying. You have so many more opportunities to cook up something delicious. Oh and I sometimes will make soup with a starter of an already prepared can and then I add things to it. Just get out there and experiment!!

And thanks for all the heads up and suggestions. I will surely try making shrimp fried rice again and I hope it turns out a bit better, for the least LOL I am such a lousy cook haha should have learned all this when I was a kid but was probably busy playing haha
Anyway thanks for the response and have a wonderful day

hi thatgirl to make good shrimp fried rice it needs some seasoning and if the recipe does not add those then its just bland tasteless chrimp fried rice, ate some chopped garlic, a little basil, and
some oregano stir in well heat and eat, adding some chopped cooked onion also gives really good flavor and low salt soy sauce is a mut for this dish.

Hi, thatgirl13. I am sorry about your shrimp fried rice not coming out as you have expected it to. Maybe there was an ingredient that was somehow left out of the recipe. I hope that you can figure out what was the cause of your shrimp fried rice not coming out like it should have. At least it smelled good, now that is a good sign that it was cooking properly.

hi thatgirl.
try again but this time, use only half of the recipes required. not sure if it will work but it's worth the shot. lol!
anyway, just keep trying and eventually, you'll get the right taste for your fried rice with shrimp. you may also want to add other ingredients like egg, green peas, carrots, and perhaps even some small amounts of pork, beef, or chicken.
do keep us posted with your culinary experiments!
cheers!!!

Well, what you should do if you failed at making it correctly would be to go out and buy some shrimp fried rice. Let it go for now, and try again at another time. Sometimes we are not prepared to do something and we fail at it. That does not mean we cannot do it.

Hmmm...I think you should start to look for someone who just eats and never try to taste or comment on the food he/she is eating. He/She can consume all your cooking with a big grin in his face because he/she is insensitive of the food's taste. Look for someone who would just like to fill up their stomachs and not really care of what they are eating.
That's the solution I can think of as of the moment.
Or maybe load your cooking with a lot of spices and flavorings or just look for those ready to cook meals out in the market.

LOL that sounds like a good idea. As a matter of my family is just like that. No matter how bad it tastes, mom always says it tastes good. You know she might be trying to make me feel good and confident but sometimes it just annoys me
But on a second though, I think that's better than complaining about how bad it tastes

Personally I have not tried making Shrimp Fried rice in yrs. I do remember it being something that you had to take a lot of time with. You also need to make sure that the Shrimp is fresh and one that cooks up well, because if the Shrimp is not the best it will leave your food tasting weird for sure. But when it comes to cooking that is not one of my expertise so I often end up having to experiment when trying to cook.

Thank you so much for your share
Well I think I know now what went amiss. I think the shrimp had to be fried/cooked first
I don't really know though coz it said nothing on the video I was looking but when I checked around, they said the shrimp had to be cooked separately first
Anyway I will keep on trying and experimenting. Hope I come out with something good soon.

All you can do is try try agian. And double check how you are making it. And you know sometimes recipes are just badly written ect. This is why I like finding recipes on sites that users rate the recipes on that way I feel better that it will turn out right and I didn't waste my time and money.

Hey thanks. I will keep on trying. I tried making the fried rice from a video I saw. He showed it to be really easy but it wasn't, or maybe I lack the skills.
Anyway I hope I get better with practise. Thanks

Hello
Girl I hope that you are fine, I think that when we are tired of something we don´t do things properly, maybe changing routine, taking a breath, will make us to cook happier and tastefully because we cook with passion and love. I talk by myself, because I´m tired sometimes of cooking and I know I don´t do my best effort.
Blessings
Girl... dainy

I guess you don't have that magic touch of a good cook. Let's accept it, but there are people who can turn dishes into magical one , by not even putting those expensive seasoning.
Or maybe because a shrimp smells not that good, it should have been fried before you mix it to the rice. I haven't fried a rice using shrimp as one of its ingredients.

Well maybe I don't have the magic touch but I am willing to learn and grow it in me :) my mom's a really good cook and can make delicious food with a scratch. I don't know why I didn't get them in my genes :D

Oh! I love that and my hubby definitely love that as well. When I'm fasting I might prepare something like that for hubby, for sure he'll love me more. joke :). I love cooking and I know I can do the same thing.
I understand how you feel though because it happen to me sometimes when I tried to copy someone's recipe. So to not disappoint myself I do it the way I want it. I don't totally do the recipe but make something similar and it always turns out good. :)
I do hope the next time you do it... you'll love your work, I mean the outcome of your labor.
