I would say that, it does have an impact to a certain extent !For example :- Some of our favorite films may have some things in them which we may like to implement in our lives too , it is the same with film stars..I have seen many people copy the hairstyle or dress design of the popular stars...what do you say ?

This is especially when people are young. When I was in school, my father got me a pair of earrings and this was similar to those worn by actress SarojaDevi. I used to keep a long bindi like her on my forehead , and imagined mysef to be Saroja devi when I wore a chudidhar and a shawl with polka dots in it [exactly like the one worn by the actress]I also used to sing all her film songs; till date I keep the long bindi on my forehead[as a matter of habit and because this suits me \] but as I said this is typical of young age. As we grow older, stricly speaking one should be more mature and live according to one's own status in life and it would be rahter silly for people to get influenced.

I agree kala, was the earring like a jhumki which she used to wear a lot.B.Saroja Devi was a very beautiful actress and she still looks gorgeous.I see her often in Bangalore.I remember a song of hers which I used to love Thanimayile inimai kana mudiyuma,,I agree those innocent fun filled days were nice when they lasted, but as we grow older and have some knocks and breaks, we see films and film stars without the tinted glasses right?...Guess what kala, sometimes I wouldnt mind going back

Me too Kiran! I used to live in a dream world of my own and I do not like much of what I have seen later in life regarding people. THough howvever, the mistake lies not in others but in my own.But I prefer to live in that world.
THe earings were a piece of danglers[ false glittering diamond stones set in rows. SHe wore this in "periya idathu penn]\ in the song "anru vandadhum adhe nila". SHe has very good features . You see her in Bangalore in person?\ OH !
And for the other song, it is such a beautiful one where she looks very beautiful.Very young too in this song!

Hi Kiran!
I think many youngsters get carried away by the mannerisms of heroes and heroines in the movies and try to wear dress like them.

It is too much if some starts copying the style of Pooja from the serials. What we see in serials and films we try to copy it unconsciously and we do not realise whether it suits us or not.

I agree and impressionable minds catch on very fast without realising whether it suits their life style or looks ridiculous. and , believe me what they show on most of our serials and films is far from reality and we should take everything with a handful of salt!

Thats true deepak , Films and stars have a major impact on the society in general. One of my relative was telling me that they even do pooja like they did in one of the tele serials because the children feel their own way of doing pooja and celebrating festivals, the traditional way is too old fashioned...I mean, that's taking things a bit too far! But such is the impact of fims and also television today..

Like what you wrote ,yes, there was an impact to other people.
Like their lifestyle ,dress and hair style.
Some people who admire those celebrity really follow their favorite stars life style and take some tips from their movies also.
This is really odd,but it's reality though.
have a good day

Yes!!! They are great influence and always give impact to others!!! It is good if they give a good impacts but very bad if it vice versa. What I see right now they give more bad than good examples not just to adult but to the youngster as well.. Sometimes it makes me think twice to buy and support their career like watching their movies, buy their CDs etc as it just like supporting their bad lives. And people now seems they just close their eyes to it and continue support the celebrities.

Hi Hanum, I too agree that films should be clean entertainers instead of corrupting minds.I feel that there is far too much violence and vulgarity in present day movies. When we get to see such images day in and day out , we do tend to get used to it as normal behavior even if it isn't...youngsters get confused and also have difficulty in making the right decisions as to what is right and what is wrong..

Yes, you are right. Those celebrities do have some impact on our life. We tend to copy their hairstyle, dresses and some nice mannerisms while they speak.
For myself, i like looking at their dresses , bags and shoes and would try to buy some like that also although not the branded ones. Nice to feel and look like a celebrity sometimes.

Hi SIMPLYD, As long as we follow styles and fashion trends it is alright. But there have been cases where some people, mainly those with certain abnormal tendencies, have become obsessive and gone to the extent of ruining themselves which is a very unhealthy tendency...all the best and enjoy your weekend

Definitely ! I agree with that..In my own case the Tv is on and if there is something interesting mostly news or some old songs or travel programs I watch with interest otherwise i am wasting power just keeping it on since I hardly watch...But it is there on and blaring giving some background sound while I am on the net..

I guess, i would rather do productive things, like mylotting rather than follow my favorite stars like an obsessive fan do.
I only like seeing them on TV shows, to see what they are wearing, which i could copy.

Movies, the Actors, and the characters portrayed definitely have the ability to affect people's lives in one way or another, whether it be inspiring or following retro or current fashion, product placement influencing our shopping choices,Admiration for a Character's ideals,(Or their attractiveness!) or emulating their actions in positive or negative ways..

Hi ShepherdSpy, thanks a lot for your responseNo doubt that we admire certain actors for their performances and also for the characters that they portray on the screen. In Indian films the stars also become very popular because of certain songs that they sing on screen.I still remember certain actresses who sang some of my favorite songs on screen. It is but natural that we begin to like them and look forward to watching more of their films.
But when this like or in some cases adoration gets out of hand and becomes an obsession then it is bound to have negative and an unpleasant impact..

Very true anil...Right from the days of Dilip Kumar,Dev Ananad to Rajesh Khanna, amitabh to the present day lot, the film stars have been fashion icons and people follow their styles and mannerisms too...Nowadays there are far too many things like the Tv soaps and also the innumerable films both Indian and Western...

Not only life styles but maybe way of thinking also. I find that many of the touching movies have themes that are close to our lives and we find that we know more about life in general. Recently I watched a movie called "My Sister's Keeper", it was so touching and I find out about some parents' attitude towards their child, it may differ so much from one child to another.
Of course, what you said is also true, in Asia, Korean dramas are very popular now, and I see people wearing clothes from Korea, food from Korea and some friends are learning the Korean language, it really has a great impact on our lives.

Hi bluemoon,Movies have a huge impact on people who watch movies especially teenagers and youngsters who are at an impressionable age.If a movie is intelligent and thought provoking it can be very helpful, but there are very few such films being made. There are not many takers for such films.Masses want entertainment and glamour! Thanks a lot for your response and happy mylotting

I think that's why the world is getting so much more violent than before, the message is put across easily and teenagers copied it readily. I shudder to think of this.

That is true, when we watch a movie we want to implement it in our lives, we see this in the clothes and hairs, but we see this in people acts too, some people try to do things they learn in moves, that sometimes is good and sometimes is bad.
I like the Godfather movies, so, I dress myself like the Godfather and I try to speak like him inside the class, "I am a teacher", it is good for me because the students like this and they play this like a game.
thank you and have a nice day.

The answer is YES indeed. But not on all the people of this planet. The majority of the people who were affected age wise are the teens.(and children too). And also a section of the people who are living their life with minimal income and comforts. As people grew age wise and financially also, sure they will have no time to think of the cinemas. In a nutshell, those who take the entertainment as full time living has an impact of the film stars. I wish to ascertain one thing : THIS IS MY PERSONAL VIEW. Any one or all of our friends who differ with me kindly bear with me.

Hi mouli, thanks a lot for your responseI too would agree that it is manly the younger crowd especially the college going crowd that gets affected the most.As we grow older, other issues become far more important and with more and more responsibility weighing us down, we hardly have any time to spare for stars. We do watch movies , but mainly for entertainment and to get away from the everyday problems..

Yes, the most popular ones have impact on people's lifestyle, not only to a certain extent but sometimes, for a long time. I'm one of those affected by my parents' admiration for a once very popular Philippine actor. I am named after him. Although it's a good thing because, had my parents stayed true to the practice at that time of naming the children born on a saint's feast day after the saint that day, as listed in the Catholic Almanac, I would have been called Pedro, which, in its root word, means "Rock." Now, my family name "Bantiles" is a Visaya word for "flint" or "hard stone," and the Malay word for "hard pebble." So, had my parents called me "Pedro," I would have carried the double burden of being called "Mr. Rock Hard Stone" or "Mr. Rock Flintstone" or "Mr. Rock Hard Pebble" hahaha...
Seriously though, if the popular film star is exemplary, the act of imitating him/her will raise the level of culture and character of the people. If not, well, another good film can always be produced and a new set of wholesome actors and actresses chosen to play the part. I just hope that the producers, film stars, and the movie industry are aware of their crucial role in society and their capacity to guide or mislead.

Hi RB, thanks a lot for adding your views Thats another thing, naming their children after their favorite film stars.I am sure that this happens all over the world ...lol, I get your point,
I agree that when a person is the limelight and is being adored by the masses , the person also has a certain amount of responsibility towards people and society. But nowadays the trend is that they are doing their job like anyone else, so why should they feel responsible?

Hi kiran8,
Movies and film stars have a big impact on people's lives. Most especially the teenagers. They idolize celebrities and copy their hairstyle, clothes, accessories, and even mannerisms. If the movie is wholesome, and the actor or actress portray the character well in the movie, then, it convey a good message for others. However, if the movie is about violence, emotions are high; it also affects how people behave after they'd seen the movie.

Hi prosperity, no doubt that film industry and its glamorous image is very attractive to an ordinary person especially to impressionable teenagers .Some of the extremely violent movies have distorted such minds , I have read so many accounts of terrorists and criminals quoting films from where they got their ideas to carry out crimes.I too feel that movie makers should have a responsibility towards society and make entertaining and clean films that do not corrupt sick minds...all the best

This is true. Movies and actors can play a part in the lifestyle of ordinary people. Aside from hairstyles and designs, people tend to copy expressions and behavior of their favorite celebs. I know of some people who imitated certain movie scenes like courtship, confrontations, presentations, weddings, parties, etc.
