Who do you pity the most - The Groom or the Runaway Bride?

I read this news article from Taiwan, a Taiwanese court has ordered a runaway bride to pay 250,000 taiwanese dollar or $8,620 for emotional damage to her groom-to-have-been for not showing up at their wedding.
Here's the fun part of this story, it turns out that the runaway bride was 5 months pregnant at that time, the deeply embarassed groom decided to fake a wedding by asking the maid of honor to stand in the bride's place - the news didn't say if it worked or not but apparently, the groom fell in love with the maid of honor and he later married her - for real this time.
The runaway bride gave birth to her baby earlier this year and she is raising the child alone, she also has to pay her groom-to-have-been the amount or she would go to jail. The groom and the maid of honor is happily married and they just won their case against the runaway bride.
Do you think the runaway bride deserved the punishment? Who do think is more pitiful in this scenario? Would you run away from your wedding?

i totally disagree that the runaway bride should be punish.. why they are thinking only of the negative thing..i mean can't they picture the brighter side that it was just mutual.. i mean.. i see it this way.. if the girl knew she won't be happy with the groom and will just be force to marry the groom..then she can't be happy and it means she cannot make the groom happy also...which means the groom can't be happy also...hmmm i hope i don't confuse you..lol.. so it is just a right decision for the runway bride to runway..lol
bottom line.. the runway bride should not be punish, especially in her situation that she is just raising the child alone.. how can they be so selfish (the groom and brides maid) the groom should have thought of giving that money to his child, instead of taking money from his runway bride

That's what I thought too but I also considered the feelings of the groom during that time. The bride should have told him sooner that she could not go through with the wedding and called it off before the wedding day instead of not showing up to it.

You have a point there, if I was the guy, I wouldn't press charges anymore. I think enough damage is done already on both parties and they should just move on with their lives.

I feel sorry for the child. Since his/her mother has to pay or go to jail , the child has no father. And if she can't pay , the child will lose his mother too. I feel sorry for the runaway bride. She didn't want to marry so Now she has to pay? Would it been better if she had stayed and when the clergy said will you , she said no?If this guy assumed she was going to marry him and she Never said Yes I will marry you, then this is bullsh!t! Why should she have to pay. Or was she suppose to marry him and Then leave? Would she have to pay if after the wedding she just bolted? You can't force a woman to marry you these days Or maybe I should say you can't force her to stay with you by marrying you. If I were the bride , I would have told him I will never marry, Period. So if he plans a wedding it is All on him. And if forced to marry , I would simply disappear after the ceremony. But that way he is stuck with a absent wife. he wouldn't have been able to remarry. So in a way All of this would have made his True love his mistress! He doesn't see her running as a blessing? He could be stuck with a woman that Clearly doesn't want him and a child to support!

I agree that the groom should have never asked for money from the Bride, I mean, he does have a child with her. It would be best to just have all that money invested in the child's future.

why was the woman penalized again? i mean here in the Philippines i think there are some cases like that where the bride would back out from the wedding and all...
by the way, the bride was pregnant from whom? the groom she is to marry? or with another guy?

The bride was actually sued by the groom and he won a settlement through court. The father of the baby is the groom that's why I can't understand why the runaway bride didn't want to marry him. I guess it might be a case of love that never existed.
