Are they all closing down or just some of them? Are they completely going out of business? I never found their customer service to be bad. I think just that more people are going to places like Half Priced book stores, used book stores, and getting deals on books onLINE - or even better - renting them from the library (FOR FREE - gasp). Too bad for all of the lost jobs though, that's for sure.

Al the Borders stores are closing and at least 10,000 people will be out of a job.

I'm sad. I wasn't terribly loyal to Borders really, but it's another bookstore going down which really makes me sad. I got some great books at the closing Borders nearby, and I'll probably be going back again cause they still have a full store of great stuff. I don't know what you mean about refusing to change with the times.
Personally I don't really like the direction the times are going anyway.

When I say, "refusing to change with the times", I mean, they wouldn't match prices, charged way too much for merchandise and were the last to get into digital books. These things all took there toll and from a business standpoint that is what caused them to go into bankruptsy.

Ah, I hate ebooks personally, (and I hate that people keep saying that's the reason Borders is going down) though I know what you mean about not match prices and stuff.

I'm disappointed because Borders was my favorite bookstore when I was in my teens. I used to love going there and getting new books.
I haven't shopped there much recently. The nearest store is about two hours away from my apartment, so I usually only went there when I had reward certificates to redeem. I always planned my trips so I wouldn't be making the drive just to redeem my certificates, too!
These days I get most of my books from the used book store up the street, or one of the community thrift stores. I can't see the sense in paying the full cover price for a book when I can find it for just a few dollars in the used stores a month or two later... or even free at the library.
