Hello Lotters, I don't know why but the last book I've read thoroughly was the da Vinci code and it took me three days to finish it. and when ever I read it while sitting down, i would eventually get sleepy and sleep. but awake after 30 minutes and read it again. it's not because I was interested but it was required in our class. There was another book made but it was really nothing interesting for me to read. I prefer to watch it in movies when ever there is model coming up. recently i decided to put a bookshelf in my room but i removed it because i got a bit uninterested after reading first few pages of the book. sometimes, I don't understand as to why I didn't develop my interest in reading. probably from few news paper articles but that's just it

Aww, I'm sorry you hate reading, then again if I had to read something I am not interested in, then I'd hate it too. My English class this fall will be on writing a book report, which can be very exciting for me if I am given choices and I find a book I like..But, if I have to read something that is boring to do a book report on, I will have to struggle.. That said, since I am not in math now, I am working on my own story, I hope that when I get it published that you find it very interesting..

Hello carmel, It's not that I hate reading to the point of destroying books, i never had the interest at all. maybe that interest has not spark in my brain some how and isntead prefers going for the other hobbies. congratulations that you have finally done with math which is really a pain i believed

Maybe you haven't found the right genre, I know my son didn't like reading until he found the kind he likes. As for the math, I am not really done, I had to drop out and will still have to take it later to get my degree..

Both of my nephews aren't good with reading most specially if it's a filipino language but damn they are so good with math and other subjects, my nephew also has talent for piano and flute music

Before, I loved to read. I am always interested in finding a new book, after reading a book. But, after marriage, I became no longer interested to read.

I also feel sleepy when reading. Perhaps, because of the many household chores, makes me tired and feel lazy to read.

Hello indahfth, yes, changes in life tend to change our lifestyle and gives up the thing that we want the most. just like me, i used to hang out in the library but unfortunately, several occassions i stop reading and it become no longer part of my interest. I miss reading but that's not my habit and i started to hated it because i get bored or sleepy.

I do not like reading too. I also get sleepy sometimes when I begin to read too. But I think it is because I do not like the smell of paper. mostly when I read on the screen I do not feel that way. I am more interested in watching movies so I would prefer to watch the movie rather than read the books.

I think watching movies on the internet or youtube precisely is better than on TV. This is because you get to choose the videos you watch.

Hello twicelot, Those who aren't sleepy and consider reading as a habit never sleeps. I am not interested in watching television but i am more interest in watching movies in youtube, it's a lot better that way to get interesting entertainment. sometimes I do read some articles in the movie relating to the thing about the plot. have a nice day

It is a pity that you dont like reading ! you really are missing out on so much that is out there.Books transport you to a different world altogether and you learn so much just by sitting at home or wherever ! I love to read and find that I become edgy and irritable when I have no book to read at bedtime..I re read books if I dont have any new ones. The one thing I really splurge on is books ..all the best Letran and enjoy your weekend

Hello kiran, I don't need pity, that's the last thing I really need. not all people has a desire to read, sometimes maybe i could have make the choice a long time ago but i don't see myself in that if i ever force myself into reading books. you know what, I can't..because some one said here that reading is something to be embraced of and i couldn't brace it no matter how much i tried. am reading..but something that i needed for my pc.

Me too...hehehe I prefer reading online articles lately. I read books for my work for leisure, I read when I'm interested to the book.

Hello mspitot, online articles are usually up to date rather than books. they maybe new books but wow aren't they the expensive ones. we have books here but some of them are decades old, i don't think I would want to buy them now or never

Yes! Another thing is that plain text makes me feel sleepy unlike online articles that have animations and other stuff that interest me.

Hi LK! If you don't like to read and you got choice not to read them then don't read. But unfortunately you still need to read the Da vinci code book as you said it is required for your class... I read that book in one day because I really excited to know what happen and how they solve the problems. There are other book of Dan Brown- Digital Fortress and since it full with computer and language encryption I really love to read it and finish in a day. That is maybe because I love reading. I am not sure if there are tips to make one reading if one already hate to do so..(^^)

Hello CThanum, that was a long time ago and yes that is exactly what I did. actually, there was an original book where dan brown took details to make that story about da vinci code and angels and demons. I still not interested much on reading though but that depends on interest on what i reached. have a nice day

I think the liking to anything is not necessarily inborn. For instance if I ask "Do you enjoy donuts", the answer being positive or negative will depend on how donuts were first introduced to you. If the right kind of chef had prepared your donuts, you will be drawn towards donuts like a fish to water. Similarly, reading also is an attraction. Authors have the ability to draw the reader towards it. People little to songs but not everone likes the same kind of songs. I read DaVinci Code and liked it so much that I went on reading most of Dan Brown's books. The film is good, but reading makes you live in the story.

I love reading, but if that is novel and if the summary of the story is interesting. I love reading self help books, it keeps me determine and i start planning and everything and set aside again and back to normal. . But if I will be reading because I just found a book below my bed, I will just get sleepy and like you when i wake up i will remember i am reading something because it must be on top of my face when I wake up. I love reading discussions here and other forum. I love reading articles, but I am not reading any books right now or novels. NOt unless i love the story.

Hello Grecychunny26, maybe it is interesting then i wouldn't sticking to it longer than i peshould.maybe i should be reading some book before i hit the bed, maybe that would be a good too, though i kept saying this and that maybe it's time i give it atry but with a newspaper, regardless if it's a bad news and hope i don't get nightmares from the bad news Have a nice day

While each person is entitled to his preferences, the fact still remains that for the complete development of the mind, there must be serious and intellectual reading, not just reading. Reading is an acquired habit nurtured from young. You are just the total opposite of me as books have become my constant companions while I couldn't grasp the whole story in movies. I couldn't understand the plots in movies so I rather read a novel then to watch a movie.

I am like you Zandi, I always have a book with me in some form. and I agree that reading is an acquired habit just as much as dancing or a sport. I am love reading novels and then if there a movies based off the novel I will watch the movie just to see the differences and similarities. I like seeing someone else's take on the story.
• Philippines
6 Aug 11
Hello zandi, That is a fact and thank you for the input. probably the reason why I love movies because it was more entertaining on my view compare to the ones that we actually read in books which is not my cup of tea.I don't really like being the total opposite of some one who reads books. there are times that I tried reading books again but to no avail

Aww don't hate reading because of bad school books! Lol. I also hated assigned reading for my classes, but I love reading on my own time, and books that I get to choose. Maybe you just have to find the right book for you...what kind of movies do you like to watch? If you like to watch horror movies I would suggest giving Stephen King or Dean Koontz a try. If you like mystery's I would suggest Nora Roberts.

My husband hates reading too and I have a problem understanding that because I adore reading and curse the fact that I don’t have as much time as I would like to catch up on my favourite books which are sitting on the bookshelf waiting for me. We’re all different I guess I love both books and movies although the book is always better lol!

I am sorry that you hate reading. I love it! I usually always carry a book with me, but this past week for my birthday my boyfriend bought me a Nook. I am so excited to have this and I have been downloading as many free books as I can get my hands on and I have been reading up a storm. Some books are better than others. If I end up not liking it I don't have to finish it. And usually if I read a book and then see the movie I don't like the movie as much because it doesn't really match the book. The exception is to read a book like 'Emma' and then see a movie like 'Clueless' which is a modernized version of the old classic and then see just what they matched to the book and what they had to change for modern day entertainment is really fun for me to see.

Hello dismalgrin, I don't need to be sorry my friend because that's how it is. Maybe it's not really for me to understand and read those, unless some darn miracle happens and i get to enjoy reading all of a sudden, i believe that there are other things that am more interested at. I believe movies are meant to entertain and not to just give facts. that's why movies based on novels are no directly or completely exact with the book. probably when i get old though, i hope

Hi Letran Knight: Wow I feel surprised because I really love reading. Actually I would read more than I do if I have the time. i think reading helps you to improve your argumentation level, also your imagination increase and you are a better writer because you have explore the works that other people do. Reading culture is dying at a fast pace. This is because most people are exposed to modern technologies such as blackberries, iphone, ipad, ipod, android phones. The traditional style of reading books is no longer being done by youth.

The love of reading comes with different reasons for different people. Majority of the people I know hate reading and don't develop it as a skill since it is often thought as a basic skill that everybody can learn and use. However, some people have advance reading skills due to their exposure to a lot of materials and constant reading. I don't blame you if you're not a voracious reader. Some people aren't really into reading but it doesn't make them less smart or an inferior person. But many can attest that reading can do wonders for the mind and a good skill to keep if your into knowledge and research. It depedns on how you view and treat reading in your life. I am a reader and I devour all kinds of materials - from the lengthy sermons to analyze to the popular pocketbooks. I also watch movies if I feel that the author is turning into the Sandman instead. For me, reading as a skill that is not something you can force into a person - a person has to embrace the skill and do 'practice reading'.

Hello jeanne, I guess if I had chosen to read when i was a kid then it would have saved me the trouble from reading everything else for research in the internet. embracing the skill? wow, i think am too late for that but I do read from every now and then that's probably important for an average guy like me

But there should be some interest of reading or you would not read all the comments here on mylot, nor would you be on the internet reading the words for accessing mylot website, Right? Then there are many more words in a written book in comparison with reading all the words using the internet..... just wondering...

Hello Qeegood, The best thing arbout readinteh comments in mylot is that these are thoughts that was thought by you people and has truly inspire me to make my own topics. yes, I can enjoy reading stuff in the internet, but reading it in books is absolutely different. have a nice day.

Hello Lk, I also don't have the habit of reading from the school days. I remember i used to sleep whenever i was asked to read text books by my father in childhood. And now when i am in to the job i don't get time to read but thats for sure that if today also someone ask me to read a book i know i won't complete the cover page and will sleep. But to start reading NEWS articles,GK books will definitely develop interest in reading.I sometimes read newspaper in the morning when i become full ready to go to job because i know at that time i won't get asleep.

6 Aug 11
Hello sjvg, hahaha I never had that experience. usually I would sleep around together with my brothers. maybe i have just the habit of reading stuff in the internet and not on the books. besides, you know our books here that was collected by my dad seemed to be more than 10 to 20 years old and probably some of them are actually old timer books

Cheers mate, I feel the same way! If someone forces you to do something, it will no longer be fun for you, naturally. So, what can we do? Simple, just find something that you think will be worth reading. I understand how long paragraphs of text can be tedious, so why not try comics, instead? Gradually you'll become interested in other things, as well.
• Philippines
6 Aug 11
Hello there. Yeah, that's right, how can I embrace it if it's no longer fun for me. I have read comics when i was a kid. funny thing is that some of those recent comics are located in our local news paper, which is really cool

Hello ssangma, Maybe I should read something today maybe that would put me to sleep. to be honest, the reason why i hate reading was because it makes me sleepy. though, it's the best time to read a book, i don't have a thing on me right now because the ones i have is not that interesting
