Today we spent two hours getting Hubby all dressed up, he's going to a memorial party and wanted to look his best. I cut his hair, trimmed his beard, he scrubbed his hands and trimmed his nails. Then we searched the closet for cloths that still fit and were presentable. After all of this he looked pretty good, but he's still the same old rancher inside. I hope his party will be all that he expects. Retired means just letting yourself go until a public outing is happening, at least
that's the way Hubby sees it.

Wow, what a supportive wife you are. I admire how wife fully support their husband in occasions like this. I also admire the husband who would not easily get irritated when the wife help him to get up. I'm sure your husband enjoyed the party.

Oh goodness, I am glad that although hubby is old enough to be retired we still spiffy him up on a regular basis. I had to go a little "above and beyond" myself because I stood up with a friend in a wedding last Saturday night. You make it almost sound like a chore to get him presentable. On the other hand, I bet he is the same self whether scruffy or not.

it is a chore, he is so insecure about his public image that it takes not only work but constant support. This is only because he is out of his comfort zone, if a t-shirt and jeans are not the uniform of the day he is unhappy. I do understand completely but it's still a chore for both of us. By the way he had a great time
at the memorial.

I can visualize how smartly he is in his finest coat and for once he is out there mingling with the public. Being retired does not mean he shun the glitters of the world. An exposure once in a while can boost his ego. He sure is proud of a supportive wife in you for making him looking good.

I also think that for men, no matter what the situation is don't really like to get dressed up at all. I've been with my husband for almost ten years now and in that time I've actually only seen him dress up a few times, all of which have been for weddings of family members or our own wedding. He really looks nice when he is dressed up, but working in machining, dressing up is not something that he has to do regularly.

just reading your post made me smile because I remember my grand-father, he too was like that,he said he is not comfortable anymore in wearing cool outfit and perfume because he is already old. but its nice to see old folks dressed nicely and still got their looks.

Well, hope everything went well for him, and that he enjoys Retired life and finds great things to do and keep busy with. Sometimes I think people never get a chance to realize how much things mean to them until people are able to show them.

hello pat,
i cant stop myself from smiling. it was like that too with my father after he retired. always we search for clothes long kept in the closet because he does not wear them very often and that he seldom go to gatherings.
bless his soul.

Wow it must be really a special gathering. My hubby don't really like going into gatherings, but most of the time he is also looking about how he looks. He make sure he is presentable for work and like you, I also prepare his things to make it easier for him. Thumbs up for good wives like us. hehe
