Here i am watering the garden, minding my business, and suddenly, a wasp stung me on the back of my right hand! The pain!!!!! I ran in the house, and looked up my home remedies book for a solution, I found one,mix baking sod a with vinegar, apply the paste on the sting.I did that and it took the pain away. I knew that I had to take Benedryl immediately, lucky I had some. That unfortunately did not stop my hand from swelling and itching like crazy. I did not sleep all night!I was afraid that I was allergic, but when I saw the doctor he told me that I have a nasty reaction, but he did not think it was allergy!I took Benedryl for 3 days(for the itching),and finally it is gone!!!My poor husband (my knight in shinning armor!) went to destroy the nest under the balcony. He was dressed with long sleeves, pants, protective glassed, armed with killer spray, but they got him on the forehead! So for a few days he was taking Benedryl, and walking around with a bump on his forehead!!! At least his reaction was not as bad s mine In this time I tried all kind of home remedies to help, none did.But I guess I should have tried them when it happened!!!!I hate wasps!!!!do you?

I have a question, when you mixed the vinegar and baking soda, did you put it on your sting while it was still bubbling? I ask this because that is what I use when my drains slow down, the mixture bubbles up and gently removes grime in the pipes... I remember a few years ago I was outside having a yard sale and what I didn't know was this old birdhouse now was the home to some wasps..So my seat was next to this birdhouse and next thing I know, a wasp stung my arm. I can't remember what I used, but there are a couple things that work, ice and onion.. I think I used ice that time. But in the past when I got stung by a bee, I'd use onion, it soothes the pain and itching and removes the venom that causes the itching..

That's a relief, last time I mentioned about using an onion someone said something like, "I am not going to waste my precious onions on a sting" (This was when I first signed up here..)

My brother got attacked by hornets when I was little. Stung & bit! My mom sliced an onion and we held slices of onion on all of them for several hours. It helped reduce the swelling, but we'd missed one and it got all swollen and red. When I was 21 I got stung three times, by yellow jackets, while in a tanning bed. Took everything I had not to run down the hall naked! I drove home, but felt funny. Was living with my parents at the time. Mom got out the onion, but we didn't have any Benadryl. So I sat on the couch with my onion slices while Mom ran to the store to get Benadryl. By the time she got back, I was really sleepy. Called the doctors office and they had me come right in. I was having an allergic reaction to the stings, but the doctor was amazed that they were not swollen. My mom and I both said, "Onion reduces the swelling!" I got a cortisone injection, an injection of 100 mg of Benadryl and stayed for an hour to monitored. I felt like crap and was sleepy, but NOT ITCHY!!!

There is also a Diphenhydramine [Benadryl] Cream. It has the same active ingredient as oral Benadryl and can be used in alteration with Cortisone cream. I had an anaphylactic reaction to a medication and the EMT's told me the Children's liquid or redi-tabs are the quickest formulas (save for injection) to get into your system. Helps if you need to buy some time to get to the doctor's office. However, when in doubt, call 911. I was recently tested for 6 different bee venoms and while they made me feel ill, I am no longer anaphylactically allergic to them. My allergist wanted to ensure that my allergy had not gotten worse. I guess after a severe sting your body can react one of two ways: next time is worse or next time isn't as bad. If my allergy had gotten worse, she was going to start me on allergy shots to help reduce my body's response. Thank goodness, I didn't have to get them. My hubby gets them for environmental allergic asthma and they suck. However, they are suppose to help reduce his asthmatic response. Glad your hubby enacted vengance on the nests!!! :)

Yikes..I never got stung by a wasp but they look like it must hurt...badly..lol I did have my own incident with a bumble bee though. I was sitting on the toilet, peeing when I heard and then saw a huge bumble bee in the window next to me. Well I finished up as quickly as I could trying to keep one eye on the bee at all times...!! Just as I pulled up my pants I noticed I didn't see it ...and OUCH...it bit me in my calf...it was in my pants....I stripped while screaming and streaking to my bedroom. That darn thing swelled as big as a baseball...and did it smart...I even had a bruise..I hate all biting insects.

I had a similar experience when I was a teenager, I got stung by a wasp in our garden in the chest cause I was not wearing any shirt, it was real painful cause it was near the nipple. I think what causes so much pain is the sting keeps pumping in more poison once inside and the body reacts to it causing swelling. I treated myself with ointment that contained cortisone to lessen the body's natural reaction. If there is one consolation, the wasp that stung you will also die. Well like you, I raided the hive but at night where they are more vulnerable with bug spray, and destroyed everything. I was crazy teenager then but I am not so sure if i would do the same thing now

I came to think of it also, animals or insects seem to protect a sphere where they will attack when threatened, similar to you and me when we protect our families when we sense harm. I saw a program where a man who lost his leg to sharks but since then had devoted his whole life in shark conservation because he found out that sharks were territorial, funny but if we come to think of it,we share our world with so many other creatures who are devoted to preserving their specie just like us have a nice day.

You do not have to be a crazy teenager to want to destroy the cause of your hurt!My husband did that ,and we found an other nest in the shed, believe me that one is gone too!!!!

So glad your remedy worked for you. In the old days had my grandmother encountered that event I know she would have grabbed a handful of mud from the garden and applied it to the sting. She claimed mud would draw out the poison. It's always good to have Benedryl on hand for any type of insect bite.
