Recently I am taking vitamins for stress. I am so stressed out with my boss. Well I had been working in that company 3 years now. The first 2 years of my job in that company as a secretary was okay. I mean I have a good relationship with my office mates and with my boss. I learned to love my job because of the benefits that they offered me such as free meal, transportation allowance, etc.
But 2011 entered and things became worst since my boss demands me the job which is not included with the scope of work that I signed when she hired me. She always gets mad even though it is not my fault. Right now I am thinking to resign in that company since stress might lead me to have a serious illness...
What should I do?

Yoga and meditation works well for me. I would try to meditate and clear my mind every night if possible, knowing that I can start a fresh new day without all the stress lumping inside my body. If you are not happy in that company or the stress is too much, it's best to get another job elsewhere where you'll be happy. Without health, you might not be able to work and earn a living.
Cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Well, just go with your heart,if you think that it's time for you to leave, then,it is a good choice for you.For the reason that if you keep working there, you could still not find you are happy. So,just change another one and change an attitude toward your new life. It's a start for you maybe.Listen to some music to relax and go talk with your friend about your situation, you may get courage from your friend also.

To conquer stress, you need to know the source of your stress. If your work is the source of your stress then you'd better think about getting a new one. Try to talk your boss and tell him about your concerns. If it doesn't work then better find a new job.

Of course, work place stress is very hard at times, since this is a daily affair. Yes, one has to find a way out of it since this would be harmful to one's health. Meditation is very helpful to find relief from stresses, mental and physical. I have been practising meditation for some years now, meditating every eavening for an hour after I get back home from work.

Hi enjyl, I know how it feels like. I am a nurse but I'm currently working now in a company as a front office staff and their are work that are assigned to me even if it doesn't include my scope of work. And I am planning to resign and look for a greener pasture. The best hing to do is if you're not happy then leave and look for a better opportunities.
Yes, stress will lead to serious illness such as cardiac disorders. I hope you'll find peace soon! God bless

it depends what is going on.
if your boss was nice until recently, she too may be suffering from stress, and putting pressure on you because of her own stress. after all the economy is not working well, so she might be under pressure from senior management.
in which case maybe i would talk to her.
however if you feel the relationship between you and her was never that good i would think about leaving.

I agree with you. I think that also influence her attitude. based on my observation, lately the company is not that earning good because of economic crisis that we are suffering in our country. Thank you..

eynjel_1988,
In the first place, I believe you have to understand that we are in challenging times - economically - so, your boss along with every other bosses in various companies are being faced with many aspects of the downturn. With the tough times ahead, a lot of companies have stopped hiring which explains why you are given extra jobs, responsibilities or even doubling for someone's work, as you've posted.
Before you consider walking out, I hope you would get a hold of yourself and find out if you could actually handle what you are doing presently. You may want to consider if you will need to turn up earlier before work to give you the extra time for your work. Then, you will need to assess if you are able to perform the tasks given to you especially the extra ones. If not, where it is beyond you and your qualifications - then you will need to meet up with your boss and let her know. So that, she can delegate it to another better qualified staff at the office and that the work will not be held back by your inability to complete it satisfactorily.
Lastly, stress is actually a management problem where you will need to make an effort to look at things from top and make decisions to provide the solution to the problems. Try talking with your boss, colleagues and even friends when you do not seem to head anywhere - as the saying goes : "two heads are better than one". You will be surprise how much ideas or solutions that these conversations can bring.
Hope this will be of help.

Hello eynjel_1988,
When stress become unbearable than one should leave the job but still there are conditions on it. If you are the only person who is earning to feed yourself and your family then its better to search a new job then resign. If you are just supporting your family and it does not matter if you work or not then its better to resign immediately and search for a new job.
I know your boss is not happy with you because you are not willing to take some extra work which is out of the scope of your job profile and she will not understand it so its better you understand it and leave the job.

Well I am thinking of talking to her first maybe she just don't understand why I am not willing to take that extra work. I am studying after I work in the office. I am taking my master's degree that is why I cant offer some extra hours to spend in the office. I will just talk to her first so that she will understand. And if not, maybe that's the time that I will resign. Thank you..

I think its actually U, who should select the best option. because only you know how your boss behaves with you. Friendly or not.., And you must be sure of getting another job; if job is very important for you. If anyone else in your home is working then it'll be okay if you won't be able to get another soon, right ?

If the stress is really taking your health away, then maybe the job is not worth it. But if you really need a job right now, then maybe learning the new task will be worth the stay. I like challenges, and if there is something new about my job, I will definitely go for it. At least you won't get bored of doing the same things everyday... I hope everything goes well for you.

Being in a stressful environment is really bad for your health. It's not worth the pay if this is the type of work evironment that you have. It would be better to weigh your options first, if you think that you are better off without this current job of yours then I say go for it, better things await you if you try.
