I am a dental assistsnt, and the reason of this discussion its about dentures. For many years I've seen to many patients that wear dentures and up to these days I see people that loose their teeth and have no hope but dentures. Now here it is my question. Why do you think people gets dentures? Do you really thing you will wear dentures? How often do you visit your dentist? How can you prevent your self of getting dentures when old? Please try to answer from your perspective, and your own ideas. The more you answer the more I reply. Let's see how much educated we are and to see if we can have our on teeth when old. I say we can have our own teeth.

My grandpa is in his late 70s, I think he is 79, and he has maybe three little brown teeth to his name. Right now he is in a nursing home because he has had a few strokes over the years and he's really going downhill these days. I have always known him to have bad teeth though, and he's always been a stubborn man with bad habits. Just as he insisted on eating unhealthy foods and refused to take his medication that would have prevented a stroke in the first place, I don't doubt he could have taken better care of his teeth if he had just tried. He has to eat soft foods, he has never had dentures, but I think his wrinkly little mouth would look very funny with big clean teeth in it. I actually kind of wonder if he even brushes his teeth anymore. Since he's pretty much bedridden these days, the nurses at the nursing home would have to do it for him. But those three itty bitty teeth are beyond help.
And it's true when people say teeth are a reflection of the health of the body. If someone is unable to take care of their teeth and needs a new set, there's a good chance they might have other problems. I don't think I know anyone who wears dentures, but I hope to never get them. I don't plan on it, and while I never floss, I basically take good enough care of my teeth and I have never had cavities.
