We had a party yesterday and for some reason there were a lot of flies in the backyard, so of course with everyone opening and closing the patio door all day long some flies got in to the house. They are driving me nuts this morning. I have been trying to shew them outside, because I don't like to kill things, but they are not taking the hit very well. I don't want to spray them but I might have to. What do you do when flies get inside your house?

If there is a lot the best option would be those fly strips..Yes they are gross and ugly, but to get rid of a lot as quickly as possible, I found these work great,,Just make sure you keep doors and windows shut to prevent more from coming in..

I think I got rid of all but one of them. Actually I think my dog got one of them she likes to chase flies, I was able to shew 2 of them out the back door. The one that is left doesn't seem to be to pesky, he has just been sitting in the same place for the last 10 minutes.

Oh good, and for the last one, all you need is a fly swatter..

They are repelled by basil. Also, my brother says original Listerine (or generic) repels them, and I seem to have good luck putting that in a spray bottle and chasing them out. I spray it on all the surfaces they are landing on and I also will spray all around the door jamb. I believe it is oil of oregano or oil of thyme in this that repels. It is also what really kills the germs.

Generic is the exact same ingredients. It is good for a lot of things, but some people hate the smell.

That is interesting, I wonder if generic Listerine would work?

hi, i hate flies inside of my house because first of all they are dirty insects, when there are flies inside of my house i will just keep the light off and only open one window so that they will follow the light and totally get outside, and that is working because i have tried it many times.

A lighted candle will help keep away the flies around the house. This is really tested because we usually do this at home when there are many flies in the house especially if we had a party at home. There is also this electronic gadget for flies that kill them it is like a tennis racket and it is really effective to kill the flies.

Thanks! Maybe next time we have a party out on the patio we will light some candles that way they won't come around the door.

I am not that kind like you when it comes to flies. I don't spray them, but there is this one shock like gadget for flies, It looks like a small tennis rocket and I use that to get rid of them when they come inside the house. I don't like flies especially inside the house. I can't sleep till I know I or my husband had them killed.

Some times the leftovers left didn't deal with nicely will attract flies to visit and stop on them. The first step to get rid of the ugly and dirty flies is to keep our environment clean as flies and other insect like to visit places where their favorite foods are available. So make sure that no one dumped leftovers near the backyard. If some where nearby our house compound has flies and they are sure will fly into our house. Try not to open the the patio door often to prevent the flies go into the house. If you do not want to kill them try to use herbal repellants to chase them away.

Yes, as we open and close the windows often, flies rush into the house. Fly population is amazing during the summer months. Like you, I don't want to hit and kill them, nor spray insect sprays. What I try to do is drive them out by opening the fans on the route they fly most. It takes time, but that helps.

I swear and scream at them! lol! I really do! I hate flies. They are so disgusting and I hate them flying around my kitchen. I try to swat them as hard as I can and then get them out of the house. Swatting them seems to stun them for a short time, so it's easier than killing them. Plus, I don't really like killing bugs. I just want them to leave.

If there are flies in the house especially in the dining table, I light candle and place it on top of the table this is true the flies will fly away.
