I am trying to incorporate honey into my diet. I don't care for honey all that much, but want to use it for the health benefits. A friend of mine who is into natural medicines said that if you eat honey from local bees, they have the immunity to a lot of the things that are causing my allergies. (Plus honey has so many other benefits) Does anyone have any yummy recipes you can share that has honey as an ingredient?

Toast bread, spread thin layer of butter....add loads of honey...mmm mmm mmm. But you care not for the taste, as a previous poster said, which honey do you not care for the taste of? Most commercial honeys are alfalfa, at least in my area.
There is a distance restriction on the added allergy benefit, it is roughly 50 miles from your home, the bees have to be using the same flowers are you are suffering from.
You can probably find a farm, or local producer with out much effort. I like to substitute honey for sugars, I go get my honey book and find the ratio for baking for you; "Honey, from flower to table" by Stephanie Rosenbaum says if a recipe calls for a cup of sugar, substitute half the sugar with honey, reduce liquid in recipe by 1/4 cup add a teaspoon of baking soda and reduce the temperature of your oven by 25F to prevent over browning.
I find spraying the measuring devices with PAM works really well to get all the honey back out.
I love honey, I hope that helps you in a variety of ways.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Your assumptions are correct, I should have said pan spray, been more generic. Yes, works wonder with it all. And if you are doing something with some kind of grease in it already, like shortening, butter, or oil, just measure your sticky stuff after you measure out that.
Thank you.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Hi CJscott!
Thank you for all of your information! You go above & beyond :)-.
I got some sage honey from the local fruit/ vegetable stand. It's pretty good, I just never had honey growing up, so , for me it was something that took getting used to. It looks like I'll be busy with all the info my fellow mylotters have given me!

Honey is sugar pure and simple and there are no particular health benefits to eating it as far as I am aware.

Thats true. But honey has it's own taste when depends on where is comes from and thats something to take into consideration as well when considering using it in cooking or as an alternative to processed sugar.
White processed sugar will not give any extra taste to the food, but if you are using part processed sugar that still contains a good deal of molasses, then you will get that extra bit of taste from the molasses. That type of sugar is good in rich cakes of course.

I could be wrong but isn't the honey supposed to be raw to provide the most benefit? I like honey on toast with butter, it is also really good on corn bread. Here is the web site for the National Honey Board, I am sure you can find lots of recipes and other information about honey on this web site: http://www.honey.com/nhb/recipes/

I use it as a glaze for roasted meat. Aside from that I also have a dessert recipe with honey. When my husband really crave for sweets on his diet. I make him the baked honey apple. I cut the apple in half, take away the seeds and make a well at the middle. Then on the well, I fill that up with honey and put some nuts inside and cinnamon powder. Then I bake that for like 15 minutes over 180 degrees... and its a healthy snack too. No sugar, no fat. Try it I know you'll like it too.

Thank you pbbsra!!!
I have apples & cinnamon in the kitchen, so i think I'll make that tonight! I usually have a little something for dessert every night, like a cookie or something, but have been out of sweets. Last night, I had a spoonful of honey to see if it would fix my craving. I have pears too. Maybe that would be good. Thanks for the tip! :)-
