Being happy and feeling contented works hand in hand. If we feel contented then it means we are happy. If we are happy then we feel contented.
I will just share my experience after a long period of time since I logged back in here in this wonderful site. After a long while of being single and just indulging myself from work then school a few months back I finally met someone who will take good care of me and will love me for who I am and what I have become. I am a very simple person. Yes some would say that I am all this and all that but I still am not very happy with my life. It seems like there is something lacking. Now, I am very happy to know that this certain person is will to love me and I am willing to love him back the same way.
Sometimes, we just have to feel contented with what we have for us to be really happy. Because if we keep on wanting more, the tendency is that we will have no satisfaction thus, it will just lead us to be having a sad life. I am now contented with everything I have and I got him already in my life. Thank you so much,
How about you guys! Do you also feel contented with you life? Yes I know that we should aim for more because we all need to realize our dreams. But it should not be too much that we are drawn to being greedy. We need to make sure that all that we dream and aim for is just within our reach.
Thank you and hoping for your nice responses. Have a great week ahead of you everyone!

being happy is a blessing. we feel happy when we achieve and receive something valuable. but those are superficial. becoming happy is easier than being happy. and one of the requisites for being happy is the feeling of contentment. i think this feeling comes down to acceptance of his/her conditions and situation. it is not about not dreaming and seeking for more. it is about the realization of satisfaction in everyday occurrence.

How I missed posting things out here on mylot! over the past few years since I posted this topic, I still feen NOT contented over the things happening to me. Why is that so? Probably I was still not able to achieve the things in life that I really want to achieve.

It used to be considered a virtue to be happy and grateful for what you had. Constantly wanting more was considered to be greedy and sinful. Now, if you are content with what you have, and want no part of "climbing the ladder" to be rich by working all the time, you are considered lazy and apathetic. I'd rather have more time with my family and less "stuff".

I think you have to allow yourself to be contented and happy. I know people who have perfectly good lives, they are healthy and financially stable but they still will not allow themselves to be content or happy. I am usually happy with my life. Right now my husband does not have a job and we only have the income that I earn on line coming in so I am not as content as I would like to be. I feel a bit uncomfortable and uncertain at this time so it makes it hard to be content. Once he gets another job I feel I will be able to be fully happy again, and not so worried.

Hello @aaronfyzeon!
What an interesting discussion you have posted here. I would like to share a piece of my thought here regarding "contentment". Man by nature will never be contented because we are not for this world. We are just merely "passersby". I don't mean that because of this it will be impossible to feel contentment. I think in our life we would reach a point where we can say that we feel contentment or near contentment.
I have experienced this when God gave me the wisdom to know what makes me happy.I thought before that money is everything. That it can solve all my problems. The only freedom money gave me is the freedom not to worry about money. I thought that all the things that I can buy with my money makes me happy but I was wrong. Yes, it made me happy but the happiness is just skin-deep. The kind of happiness that will not last. I realized then that family and good relationships makes me happy and more contented in life. Just watching my husband playing with my kids gave me endless joy. I was very blessed that God gave me this gift and He opened my eyes that they are treasures far more worthy than gold.
And because I know where my happiness lies, I was able to prioritize relationship over other things. I learn to value my family, friends and other people over things because I realized that they are my happiness. The love and support of my family serves as my anchor in times of challenges. They inspire and give me strength. They are constant reminder of God's love for me.
I think that the feeling of being contented is a blessing itself and I never fail to thank God for this. And I make this as my guiding light in my journey through life because this is what matters most to me.

Being happy and contented is not hard to achieve as long as you are satisfied with what you have right now..But we cant deny that most people want something more with what they have thats why there not happy and contented with what they have right now. .Its just a satisfaction of what you have to make you happy and contented

Hi aaron fyzeon: I have a different point of view. I don't feel contented because there are so many different things I'd love to do with my life and these plans are here and I hope I'll be able to make them truth. But I'm happy simply because I think happiness don't depend on a person, a job, a situation or whatever. If I feel in peace with myself, with the world and with God I can be happy and that's my actual situation. I think there's a moment for us to dream and to have expectations, so we never will be completely contented but we can be happy at any moment of our lives.
