And with those immortal words (tweet) I am officically on twitter. But I have no idea what to do. I have been hearing of twitter but never really thought I would ever be using. Today I just decided to sign up on impulse. So far I have started following people and organisations, I have 'retweeted' other peoples tweets and some people have started following.
I welcome any and all suggestions on how to use twitter effectively. Let me know who I should follow and stuff like that.

Hi 2wicelot! Interesting name.hihihi
Anyway, if you have links or blog or website to promote, you can use twitter to your advantage. Add as many friends as you like. Keep following others and they will follow you as well.
Good luck and have fun!

Hi twicelot!
I am in twitter but don't use much of it. I have followed some people but that just it. I am not into twitter because I found it a boring thing to do. Twitter is for people who likes to post status and let others know it. Even in the popular site Facebook I hardly write any status when it come to twitter it be much less writing on it for sure.

I use twitter but I don't think I am getting the best out of it either. I follow a lot of friends and blogs that I am interested in, and thats great - it helps me to keep in touch with things that are happening that are focused at me. I like to follow events as well that are in my city, so I always know whats happening. Its also good to follow a few news sites so you can keep up to date on world events! Enjoy tweeting - it can be a lot of fun!!

I think I signed up for twitter about 6 months before I actually tweeted anything. I thought I might as well, so I did. I still hardly tweet anything, but I do follow people. I follow a few members of mylot, and I wouldn't mind following you if you'd like me too. I also follow some athletes like Tim Tebow, some former child stars like Candace Cameron Bure, some TV stars like Nathan Fillion, and an occasional soap star, like Maurice Benard. I follow people I think would be interesting to know in real life.

Well, I am on twitter too, but I really don't see what the big deal is with it and I don't ever really use it. I find that I enjoy my blog and facebook much better that I do it.

I am already having the same feeling about twitter already. I just searched you on twitter and now I am following you. I think it is possible to earn money twitting about companies and products. I would use it for a few days to see if there are ways to make it more interesting.

Hello 2wicelot,
I have signed up a few weeks ago but I do not know what to do and how to start. I feel a bit bored because of that and at the end, my twitter account becomes very inactive I don't even bother to tweet even once a day. Maybe when I feel excited about this stuff, I will try to learn again and be active

"how to use twitter effectively" is a subjective expression. It depends what you want from it.
Personally, I use it to tweet blog updates and to comment on friends' tweets. I've built up a decent following and follow people I enjoy hearing about - whether they're particular celebs or other bloggers who post interesting stuff.
I don't use it for marketing (since that's the best way to lose followers unless they enjoy spam) and I don't put a lot of effort into networking on there, but even so it's been a very useful resource for finding/sharing work opportunities with my Twitter friends.
Whatever you want to use it for, start off by being interesting. Read this to avoid the annoying mistakes: http://scrawlbug.com/2009/07/01/10-stupid-mistakes-on-twitter/ (don't miss the comments, there are more in there).
You can't get an interesting feed in a few days: it takes time to build and trim the trash. I started by following people who interested me: bloggers I already knew. Their RTs pointed me to new people and so on and so forth. Over time, I've removed the spammers and people who just spew marketing and kept the interesting people.
The best advice I can give you is this: Don't do what everyone else is doing. Do your own thing. Follow who you want to, not who everyone else listens to.

Congratulations on being on twitter. Its the next best thing on social network after Facebook. Do keep following people who you are interested in and ask them to follow back if possible. Do regularly tweet as it is a real fun. Try chatting with friends and make more friends.
Glad to hear you have retweeted many of the tweets also. People say tweeting is one, retweeting is blessing. Do help others on twitter as much as possible by searching #help and enjoy as much as posssible.
Enjoy tweeting and mylotting :)

Hmm~ I'm a member/fan of a certain group's fanbase so I commonly use twitter to announce updates, events and other things related to the said group. Other than that, I just post really simple and short update as to what I'm doing :P Twitter and FB are currently blocked at work so I seldom access them XD

One way to start you can go to the search box and enter keywords related to a topic you are interested in. Then you will see people who are tweeting on that topic you can then follow them. I don't follow people who have not put up an avatar unless I see that whomever has posted some tweets of value. I tweet a few times a day. I tweet about products and services I want to make others aware of with a link to the website that has more information, I also tweet inspirational quotes. Just to give you an idea I have blogs about women issues and addiction so I look for businesses and people interested in those topics to follow and the majority follow back. I also seek out people who have home businesses and those who tweet about marketing. So think about your interest and tweet about that. Watch out for people who follow a lot of people and may have a lot of followers but do not mention anything about themselves in the bio section. These are sometimes spammers who only want access to your followers and will send out unwanted information and tweet about things you may not approve of. You don't have to follow everyone who follows you.
A nice thing is that when someone follows you to send a direct message with a short note stating a simple "thank you for following." Hope this helps.

i joined twitter a couple of years ago, but i don't use it. though there are a couple of newspaper site that i post comments on, and i sign on to them through twitter, and so i think the comments i make appear there.
sometimes i get a new follower, and it completely surprises me, as i wonder where on earth they came from.
but i may at some point start using it properly.
maybe you can let us know how you get on 2wicelot, and encourage other people.

i never used it much, i think you need a few followers to make it fun, and i am not a very sociable online person, i like a few friends, but i don't want to have loads of people following me online, which is why i prefer a forum like this. but i would try it for a bit and see.

I have about 40 people following me (I am danishcanadian on twitter just like I am on here), but no one has ever replied to one of my tweets. LOL I am not on there nearly as much as I am on Facebook, because for me Twitter just feels like talking into thin air, whereas Facebook feels a bit more interactive.

I joined twitter a couple of years back out of curiousity of what it is all about. Then I stopped using it for quite some time as I do not really know what to do with it. Recently, I started to tweet again.
What I know about twitter is we can pen what we want to say in 140 words per tweet. And from whom we have followed, we can read about their tweets, some can be rather interesting. If I am not wrong, we can search and choose who we would like to follow, it could be an individual person or an organisation, to our interest.
I may not tweet very often, I tweet only when I have some things to say or some stuff I have read to share, but sometimes by reading other people's tweets are interesting too.

good for you friend, well I have not created a twitter account yet cause it might just conflict with the little time I have for my numerous other sites, perhaps I would draw inspiration from you and create mine too one of these days, don't forget to keep me updated and how your experience turns out.Good luck

I'm also thinking of opening an account in Twitter. But as I think not many of my friends are in Twitter; instead they are in Facebook. Is it really user friendly like Facebook ?
May I ask what did you find special there at Twitter than any other social networking websites..
