Should kids wear watches?

Do you think kids should wear watches? From what age? What type of? In my eyes, parents should tell kids to wear a watch from like the age of 5. Following reasons: Kids must learn to read the time. Also I think kids should be a bit independant. You tell them like you can play, but be home at six. Also they should be on time (for school) I think they should get a cheap model (Flick-Flack, Swatch) also that isn't too big for their wrists. For that reasons we got all our kids watches when they are five. They all still wear them and like them. Cellphones they can have later. But a phone is to call, and not to see the time. Else they just play around with it all the time.

I think the decision should be left up to the child as to whether or not they want to wear a watch. It would be nice if they would wear one to be able to keep track of time.

I personally think its important for kids to plan the time. I wanted to give mine responsability early. Like I said: You can go to the playground and be back home at 6 for dinner. That only possible when they wear watches. And if its a present I guess kids like it. "Come on son, give my your right hand - I got something for you"

I think kids should wear watches. In some ways they need to learn read the time, and it is not convenient for them to look at the phones. For they will entertain themselves with all kinds of phones. But watch is simple and get them some simple ones would be helpful..lol

Signature Watch - Signature Watch not for Kids
Kids can wear watches if they know already how to look at the time. Now if they are worn as accessory it is still okay even if they don’t know how to look at the time yet. Just make sure they are not wearing very expensive watches like signature watch. This is for their own safety.

I don't know. Kids don't really ever wear watches anymore. But, I'd much rather have them get a watch than a phone. I used to always get these cute watches with cartoons on them as a kid :P

I think so, my daughter when she was five, they were taught how to read time in school, but before that i already bought her a watch to wear. The cheap kind and designed for small kids with numerical time not the type of watch with a hand, (hour hand, minute hand, second hand). I also taught her how to read time with our wall clock so that she can be familiar when she goes to school. Good enough, she did not have difficulties in reading time.

One kid wanted one when he was only 4. He couldn't read time back then But as everyone had a watch on the right hand in the family he got one.

I think children should be taught the value of keeping time. An affordable wrist watch would be cost effective. Cellphones should come later when they are old enough. Five-year old kids are too young for that. Cellphones also tell time and I use mine as an alarm clock other than my watch.

How much you think is the price you should pay for a watch of a 5-year old?

10-15 dollars would do, it depends in your country if you have price ranges for watches like that.

I think I was around 8 years old when I asked fir a watch, and got a nice one. To this day, I never want to be without it. The sooner kids learn how to use one, the better.

Of Course they should, once they're able to tell the time,at whatever age that might be..Make it fun for them while learning to tell time and gift them with a suitable type of watch when the time is right..It's all part of growing up,getting the responsibility to be someplace by a certain time and being aware of how and when to get there..

I think kids should wear their watches, of course. As early as they start schooling. As long as it's a watch, they can wear it. Even a 4 year old must wear a watch IF they start school. When thy start going to school. That's the time they should start wearing a watch. We have the same reasons why. Watches tell them how they should give importance to time, it helps them practice good time management (which must be practiced while they were young since it is very helpful when they grow up). Whatever brand or model it is, as long as it is a watch, they can wear it.

Yes I know some parents who don't wear watches and also don't make kids wear it. But not in our family :) Best all kids still like watches.

Yes, i agree. Kids should wear a watch when they are able to read and tell the difference. IT'sa good way for them to learn as well as know the importance of time. I've been watching watches since i'm a child, around the age of 6. I was attracted by the fanciful and bright pink straps from watches, resutling in me wearing it. After that, i'm hooked to wearing watches, but pink is not my thing now.

I agree with all of your reasons. Also, a watch is a grownup gift to give a child. It tells the child that you don't think he is a baby anymore, and you trust him to learn to tell time and be responsible with it.

I think they should. As early as possible I think. It was good of you to have posted that because that is what I keep trying to remember-that one day so soon when my four-year old is ready to read the watch I would teach her to start using it. So that as early as she can she will get to learn the importance of time. I have not thought as to what age I should be allowing her to use a cellphone since she will not need it for I will be around her all the time till she grows up and she might hate me for that. Haha. Really, I'm just kidding-maybe sometimes. Haha. I don't have to--it is just a thought. I know I would be able to trust her. That is why I keep a track on analyzing if I am raising or will be raising her the right way for her to grow up decent and sensible, so I won't have to worry about her whereabouts when she has grown up. I hope I could do it all. Then I am contented .

I think it is necessary for kids to wear watches. First, the watch is not something luxury today. Second, it is a good habit for the kids to understand the time and then having a good habit not to be late. They shall have a concept of the time. I love China

Hey nice discussion!! But to be honest I have never thought of this before. Anyway I think kids should wear watches from an early age and learn how to read the analog watch too!! I have a friend who wore digital watches from small age so she can't read the analog watch and gets really puzzled when she has to tell the time.
