And God said ..."go and multiply"...

God said in the Bible to the first people to go and multiply. Our church are opposed to family planning methods and this could be the main reason why they are strongly against it. Now there are more people that we could imagine and that the population is growing fast. What do you think of this statement? We do believe that it is hard to go against that. And maybe this question as our hearts could say is reluctant to answer. But just in case you want to share something, please do.

It's a pity that he did not also provide the means to support them all. The logical end result of such a commandment is the mass starvation and consequent suffering on many parts of the world today. I see very little evidence of a compassionate god in Somalia at the present time.

There was a report on TV recently about some refugee camps in East Africa saying that they had achieved a permanent status with the inhabitants living almost entirely on international aid.
One of the most remarkable, not to say hard headed and practical intervewees was a woman who said that the aid should be stopped. She said that: "A lot of people would die, but the survivors would adapt and continue."
I have to say that I'd agree with what she said though I doubt very much if any politicians or aid agency officials would do so.

She was right too. Because how long are they going to this? Instead of helping the people to do something to be productive on their own to survive it is also not right when they are aiding them and not doing anything. Because then they will multiply rapidly and doing this forever might not just work anymore.

First of all i m sorry to anybody if i hurt their religious sentiments or if i am rude to anybody.
What i believe is that God said "to the first people" to go and multiply.
It was because there were just two of them.
And today there are BILLIONS !!
People should accept this fact and multiplying just because God told Adam and Eve to do so is not wise.
Everyone has a right to multiply and no one can take it away from them but it is up to us,the people who live on this planet earth(the only discovered place where life exists) to make their choice.
Creating an army of children is definitely not carrying out the will of god!!
The Mother Earth is about to give in...it won't be able to sustain the load of exponentially increasing population in the near future.

Oh I am sorry. I didn't mean to. I do agree. Creating an army of children is definitely not carrying out the will of God. It is indeed in our own discretion whether we have children or not or how many. God also said we have a freedom of choice and the church just seem to use that statement by God to go and multiply so that people will be fearful of controlling births. They can't seem to see the picture. They are only relying on what the Bible has said. Well, is totally different now than thousands and thousands of years ago. And like you said when Mother Earth is about to give what will happen to the next generations? Only more will suffer. And it is no longer what how God intended his children to live in this planet because we might run out of everything compared to the abundance the very first people had.

Yes, I agree. A long time ago is so much different from now. Over population if not addressed can go out of control and even the people who are not suffering now with life's problems might suffer the same things some people are already suffering now. Then everyone will be hungry and nothing can be done because it is too late. I am sure God also don't want all His children to suffer like that.

God told the first human couple he created to "go and multiply" and fill the earth. He want his human children to populate the earth that he created for them. That statement from God is as old as the old testament of bible itself in the first chapter of Genesis. By it is then where the earth is liveless, but have plenty. God intention is very clear for the first people. But the church shouldn't have taken it literately in this period of time (2011) where world population is already populated with so many people and after many decades of population explosion where resources are depleting quickly worldwide.

You are out of touch with the real world. Pal! God does not rain down manna from heaven, he want his human children to toil their land, and grow their food, you must be dreaming to think manna will fall down from heaven. But that's fine with me if you are talking nonsense here. lol!

The rules of this world want us to believe that the population will explode, that there will be no food etc. They try to create a fear and stress among the people so they have full control. Trust in the Lord that He has got bigger plans that you can ever imagine! God can feed the needed with manna from heaven every day if it has to. If you believe in Him all these fears will disappear. The Bible is written for us also. Every word is relevant even today. Read New Testament.

I agree with you lampar. There are many children around the world dying of hunger everyday. And it has been going since time we can't even remember. I don't know if the world is truly doing something about this because if they have been then this would have long been solveD and no child will be left to die out of hunger or suffering from pain of any diseases. We have seen the many people suffering nowadays. Even those who have jobs also experience not having enough food to supply the family. Although many people does try but reality does bite so hard and not all are so blessed with all of life's necessities. Thinking for the best does not mean we are not following God's will. When we are created in His image He also gave us rational mind so we can think well what is best for us. And I am sure that seeing the ills of the world nowadays, He will understand how we ARE NOW ABLE TO USE THE THINKING HE BESTOWED US.

I think the Bible cannot be taken literally or out of context. It cannot be done with any boook ever. There is a time when multiplying a species is right, there is another time when it´s wrong. All animals that are in danger should multiply and we, as concious beings, should help instead of hinder it. But we are selfishly using up all our planet and there will come a time when instead og being able to multiply ourselves, we will all die of famine

True. We, as human beings, have to think of the next generations. The world should not end with our lives.

Yes that can be the worst to happen and I hope that it will not ever happen. The world may be bound to end and we wouldn't want it to be that way knowing we are part of inducing it's end. I am not going to be here when that time comes, but still I a concerned for the next generations because they also deserve to live at least the way we are living now.

Yes the statement of God "Go and multiply" is very true and I agree with that but we had to consider also the timeline when did he was mentioned that statement, besides it only applicable to Adam and Eve why do I say so? Because that time there are the only persons existed in this earth so God commanded them to multiply. Is it applicable today where population explosion is uncontrollable? I think it's not because according to one book of Paul says that "we had to control" implying that we had to control the population growth here in our country. Almost majority of Christian denomination here in the Philippines only agrees with the RH bill and only Catholics are only against this because the priest doesn't fully understand the word of God about RH bill. God tells us to control and it's biblical. The only reason I see why Catholic church against this because they are making profits from the innocent babies when they baptize they will ask for fees which even against the bible.

As long as the priest concerns about the baptism fee, they will keep opposing the RH bill because if there are less babies their income also affected. Spiritual service must be free of charge but Catholics are keep asking for a fee in all of their services.

When God said "Go and multiply and replenish the earth" He said it first to Adam and Eve and the second time he said it to Noah and his family after the flood. The idea was exactly as He said "Replenish the earth." In other words, fill the earth with human beings. We have now done that.

Well, I feel that if a family is Financially stable and ready to bring a child or children onto the Earth than go for it. The problem sometimes is there are people who cannot really afford it and then the children have to suffer, or those who should not be parents for Health reasons, or just would not make good parents, so I have always wondered what is the Best in these cases for sure?

i think this statement was literally interpreted.
We actually forgeting that we also need to multiply the word of God. His teachings and His Love.
Church must act something especially the population which are growing everyday.
They must sometimes listen outside the Church coz the reality are in there.

Cathoilc opposes to the RH bill because there are some verse in the bible they don't consider or pay attention. According to bible again God gave us free will so it's our choice if we will be slave of the Catholics teachings forever.

I don't think the world would and could handle every body having as many kids as they could possibly have, God create us with a survival nature and we know what we can't handle.
I have seen people with 6 kids and they can;t even feed them is that the purpose of God words? no body could say they know exactly what to do, but we all know our paycheck, small or big and know what we can afford or not.
i go to church and read the Lord words, but i try to think and apply them in the time we living now, just careful and not many kids that we cant feed or send to school or give love and attention.

i believe in GOD all the time. but nowadays population is growing faster. people have to be practical and have family planning. no one wants their children to suffer. just think that if you have many children, you got now work, you cant give then the right food, shelter, clothing and education. poor kids will grow ignorant. i think you can have many kids as you want considering you can sustain and give their needs and a little wants.

If you believe in the Bible and in Jesus you will know that God will provide in case of need. It is happening in our family time and time again. When we try to take control and decide how many kids to have, than we do not trust GOD that He has got a plan for us. I have seen many many Christian families with 4-5-6 children and they are never hungry or suffering. They may not be rich in the terms of today's crazy world but they are rich in love and compassion and rich in family members. Our lives are not just work-money-work. Our lives must be love-family-work-family-love.

I think there's nothing wrong in family planning, we are already over populated, available jobs are not enough, there's so many people that are starving because they don't have decent job,no own house, and can't even bring their children to right education. so I think its just right to control the population so that this kind of problem wont get worst.

I think the go forth and multiply is only meant for Adam and Eve since they were the only human beings then. God knows that we are already exhausting our resources and if this scarcity continues, I think that phrase will no longer be applicable since it will be the extinction of the human race by then. We should really act now to prevent the population growth, if this continues, our future will surely be dim.

What makes you think when God said that it only meant to multiply people. It could be love, compassion, nature, animals, greenery the works. God surely knows better than that. How could that be the case when God knows that the 'infrastructure' is enough for just that many and not more.

God or Bible what ever religious books it might be ... they do give some commandments also with which we should have our own self decision to be made.God might had said but nowadays to many is not possible,as we can say this from the heart ,one or tow kids enough for the days of present in the world.Population can cause many problems if we observe what god said "go and multiply" , it can not be said that god give the child so the food is also given by god, such things we can not accept these days.

Hi thetis!
It is practical if only a married couple are able and afford to do so. If they can't give a proper education to raised the kid nor they are able to give the kids needs then I think they should consider and think more than twice to have more children. What the trend nowadays are rich people with less children/family planning while the poor tend to have more children that their ability to raise and support them. For me the rich should have more children than the poor.t does not mean that the poor can't have many children but it should based n the affordability.(^^)
