Brazilians speak Portuguese, because their country is a former Portuguese colony. In fact, there were several treaties signed between Portugal and Spain which apportioned the rights to the newly-discovered lands between the countries.
Brazil became independent of Portugal in 1822, though Portugal did not recognise the fact for another 2 years.

This question has a very simple historical answer to it. The people of Brazil speak Portuguese because the Portuguese colonized Brazil beginning in 1500. Much like the Spainairds colonized Mexico, thus Mexicans speak Spanish.
