So it's already back to school this week here in the Sacramento area. Can you believe it? Today the high school went back, and Wednesday the elementary and middle schools start.
Wednesday will not be fun - drive to the middle school, drop off Naomi, hang a u-turn, drive to the elementary, drop off Cary, hang a u-turn, drive to the high school, drop off Dearra. Bleah. But today it was just Dearra, so it was kind of leisurely like.
I shouldn't have been surprised. After all, this happened in January when we came back from Christmas break. I came downstairs, and Dearra said, "I threw up twice, but I'm going to school no matter what."
Yep, her anxiety has reared its ugly head yet again. This time it was different though. As I was fixing my lunch she vomited a couple more times, and then said with a determined look, "I'm going to school even if I throw up 1,000 times!"
Yep, she went. Got out of the car no problem. I'm so proud of her.
Stupid anxiety. The "freakin' closet empath" feels it every time this happens to her. Can somebody hand me the stomach meds?

Aww, poor thing, she gets sick when she is nervous? Just give her a couple ginger cookies for her upset stomach and some lavender lotion to relax her..:)
I can't believe though, that school has started for your children already. My son goes back on the 17, and he thinks that is too soon...

Ginger snaps and ginger ale, good for a stomach bug...
There's a lotion at walmart that is oh I forget the brand now... but it's for relaxing, smells good, and works wonders.. use it too much and it's an irritant to the skin though... Made that mistkae... what is with my dots today?

Wow, good for Dearra to push through the anxiety and make it to school. Hope Dearra enjoyed her first day back to school. It seems like they just got out of school. Time really does pass by quicker when you get older.
I also suffer anxiety attacks and they are not a whole lot of fun. My body just shacks on the inside, hands shack too, heart races and on occasion I get sick. Unfortunately, I don't know of any remedy that works. I take medication but it's not always affective. Best Wishes!

She liked all the teachers except for the PE teacher, and today she's fine...

She really likes her English teacher though.

Yeah, that makes things a lot easier on her. I can understand disliking the PE teacher. They can be rough and have a tendency to force people to perform activities they would rather not do. Best Wishes!

For a change of pace on the meds, try gingerale. I know we feel strongly with our kids. Is any part of her anxiety related to the situation with R? She is showing a lot of maturity with her determination to go anyway.

One of these days she could discover that school is a favorite place to be. I did. I went from faking sickness to going and never telling anyone that I was sick. I hope all goes well for her.

I know that in counseling, the first session where she talked to the counselor without me, she got kind of loud, and I could hear that she was talking about her dad's temper. So that is affecting her too. But this is definitely school related...

She's starting Japanese this year, and she's really excited about it. I hope she ends up really loving it, because I"m sure that will help.

Good for her! I had the same problem when I was in school. Being pitifully shy I was a mess come time to go back each new year. My aunt got me some sure to work stuff one time. Liquid and tasted like a chicken coop smells. I cried until mom told me I didn't have to use it. Thanks Auntie!

Wait! Why would they go back to school in August? Is that a Sacramento-thing?
I guess I feel a little bit of that too when I get anxious. Specially when I go for interviews. And I surely feel like throwing up too.
Maybe she'll outgrow it.
Soon.

Not only Sacramento. A lot of people here are saying kids go back that early where they are.

school is off for two whole months here in ontario, canada and my baby is starting grade 9 this year (fortunately, her sister will be there to help her as she is doing the victory lap - its the year after grade 12) but i can see that she will be in the same boat.

Dearra did 9th last year. It started off pretty well, and then some things happened, but she got through it OK.

She hasn't called in a panic. Actually she should be home by now, I think I'll check.

Hi dawny~ Sorry to hear that Dearra is still suffering with
her "stomach thing". I know how awful it is to have an "nervous
condition" (IBS is mine) that you have pretty much no control over
at times. I feel both of your pain~ Hope things get better soon

Part of being a Mom, there is no closet empath here, i'm right out in the open for all to see. Only it's not just kids and family with me, friends get to stand in line with me, seems always someone is in trouble. I have learned this great blessing and it seems to let me off the hook. Please send the MOST BENEVOLENT OUTCOME this turns it over to others to deal with, I can cut out of the emotion.
Maybe I'll live longer this way, I know I'll be a lot more comfortable.

Unfortunately, it sometimes seems as if the most benevolent outcome requires some sort of action from me. And I don't always get it right...

She is a strong young lady and I wish her well. I have immediate nausea when faced with stress and many times I am just living in the rest room. Especially during exams. I would have to make frequent trips to bathroom and then come back and write some more then off I went again. I passed all exams - but not brilliantly. I consoled myself that I would have done better if I hadn't spent a third of the time in the bathroom

I can see how that would make it harder to concentrate on things. I know she spent a lot of time worrying about having to vomit while she was in school, that was part of the reason it was hard to get her to go before.

The joys of school! My kids started yesterday. One couldn't wait to go, the other dreaded it like the plague! At least, despite a nervous stomach, Dearra still wanted to go to school. It could be worse I guess, having a child that never wanted to go. Hopefully her nervous stomach will only last the first day.

It was almost better the 2nd day, and gone by the third. The other two were OK with starting school, if not exactly excited.

I get anxious, but I am glad it's not bad enough I throw up. It's probably best for to face it anyway, so brave too! I'd have probably stayed home if it happened to me.
When I get anxious it gets to the panic / anxiety attack stage and it's not fun at all. I've learned to tell myself to shut up and calm down though, and then I feel tons better.

She was staying home the other times that it happened, but what ended up happening is that it got harder and harder for her to even want to try to go to school. When we finally made her tough it out in January it wasn't nearly as hard as she expected, and this time wasn't either.

School doesn't start in Florida until Monday, 08/22/11 and this is the first year my son will be going to an elementary school (Kinkergarten), I am a bit excited and scared at the same time. I am still not sure what to expect on the first day or the first week for that matter. I am so used to having them both together at a daycare across the street from my work, that i don't know how I will be reacting. My son is excited we just went this weekend and bought him his uniforms. I just hope he likes after the first day and really experiences what Kinkergarten is all about.

You know, it could be anything from him loving it to him hating it or anything in between. Hope it goes well!
