Why do we have to put "tags" for every post?

Every time we reply to a discussion, we must first add "tags". From my knowledge, tags are supposed to make the page easier to find through various search engines, is that correct?
Anyway, why is it there, since we can just skip it? Do we earn more for adding "tags" to each of our replies?

This has been questioned before and my full understanding is that no we do not earn for tagging discussions, responses or comments. Same as the BR we do not earn for assigning them and that has been confirmed in discussions by admin. As for the tagging I have not encountered an Admin response to this but have always been told by the many veterans we do not earn for them. I simply do when asked as I find it just the same as the page has to load and do want to assure discussions are easily located during searches.
There are many times members say their deleted discussions was not in the search prior to them posting them, what happens is that if no tags a search engine cannot find specific searches. I have entered many discussion which contained 5 - 6 responses and yet no tags so I easily since responding do always tags for this reason alone.

We have to put tags for ever post because myLot says we're supposed to!!! Everybody complains about it when they first start here. Once you get used to it, it's NOT that much trouble!!!
The Guidelines state...
Make sure you search for existing topics before starting new discussions.
Without tags, it would be almost impossible to search existing topics. After you've been here for a while, I think you might find the need to refer back to a previous discussion for any number of reasons. I find the tagging to be more beneficial within myLot than through a search engine!!!
Do we earn more for adding tags??? This has been argued since before I joined. A veteran myLotter told me when I first joined that he had noticed that his earnings declined when he didn't tag. So, I made it a "habit" to tag. Then when I was told tagging did NOT affect our earnings, I quit tagging & I also noticed a decline in my earnings. Since NONE of us know exactly how myLot pays, I determined that for myself I would continue the habit to tag EVERYTHING except my "Private Messages" as our PM's don't earn us anything!!! Since returning to tagging, I believe it has helped my earnings.
One of the nice things about myLot is you can do what you feel is best for you & as long as it doesn't affect anyone else, then you should be just fine!!!

I do believe that adding tags does increase our earnings. I think that it does not add much to it, but a few cents. Anyone who uses the search engine on here benefits from the tags on a discussion.
I do skip them at times depending on how much time that I have on here. If I am short on time, then I just do not do them as they can take up a lot of time.
