One day my Father in law tell me ohhh surekha how much water you drink at the time eating one glass is good but more than two to three glass is not good. You can drink 10 to 15 minutes after but at the time eating is not good. I think yes this is bad habit because I feel I cant eat more meals due to water. But I observed some people drink no water even a single glass at the time of eating and some are like me drink more water. What is good for our body share your views. I think if we drink more water then we cannot eat more meals or food. Is it true?

Surekha: I have also been told that we should not drink water while eating unless you get hiccups. As u rightly say drinking water will reduce food intake. Those who want to become lean normally do so. In Kerala they always drink hot water with jeera after taking food to help digestion. Surekha: new avatar. very cut and good.

Here in the United States it would be a good thing if drinking more water caused us to eat less because we eat too much. Drinking water does fill our stomachs so you may not be as hungry but I think this is only a good thing. I don't think it matters if you drink it before or during eating your food. If you're thirsty go ahead and drink it I say. Why would you want to eat more if you're not hungry? As long as you are not losing a lot of weight and getting very weak I wouldn't worry about it.

These comments that say water interferes with digestion are absolutely false. In fact the opposite is true. Water helps with digestion by dissolving food particles and making it EASIER to digest and be absorbed by the body. Without water the food will be in large pieces in the stomach and the digestive juices can only act on the outer portion of the food.

Everyone has a different need of water. You are saying that you like to fill up on water rather than food and if you are not underweight that is probably fine. I like water with my meals and sometimes I will have more than one. It actually helps with digesting, I think. It sounds as if your in laws have lots of opinions about how and what you should eat and drink.

They say that if we drink water with food then the digestion will take a little longer time,It is good not to take water while eatning or for an hour after finishing the meals. It is because the food and water get mixed up in the stomach and it would take little more work for the digestive system to separate the water and the food .Water is good however not all time.

Uma: yes it depends on our habits. I normally drink water after eating. It is ideal to drink hot water after eating lunch or dinner.

Habits can be changed with little effort. It is said that boiled ,strained and cool down water is good, how many do that and follow it.It is done in rainy season as the water should be taken carefully ,many problems come with water.

yes. In a hot place like ours normally we prefer drinking cold water only. In fact some people drink ice cold water. But I have seen in kerala people drinking hot water with jeera added to it. In hotels also they give hot water only there. thanks

Hi dear, As per my understanding it is said that atleast .5 hrs. of gap should be there after the meals. For better digest and for body healthy conditions. I have read it various places and insisted also. But as per our routine nature of food habit we normally won't have any order in the food habit. We do what we feel. This is the short form for all. Whenever required, or whenever feel, or whenever offered, we eat and drink. If we follow the systematic method of eating and drinking by habit and as per the proper way, it would provide good health and ill free body. But for us, I don't think it is possible now. Thank-s

I have read a few of the other responses here and seems a lot of people think both ways, drinking water with your meal seems to have good effects and bad effects. My thinking is water is good for a person and nobody gets enough or too much water. So I think drinking water whenever a person wants, with food or without, couldn't hurt you. Water gets obsorbed very quickly by your body and doesn't sit in your stomach for long enough that it would fill you up to the point that you can't eat anymore, in my view. Besides we all eat too much anyways so if drinking water cuts back on a few mouth fulls of food I don't think it would hurt us. I think it would be good for us all to eat a little less. Who drinks three glasses or more of water with their food anyways? Do you actually drink that much water with your meal? I always have a glass of water with my meal but never more than one. My food fills my stomach too much to drink more than one glass of water. heehee

I'm not really sure what to say to that. I like to have water available to wash down food that might be too dry, but I know in some places they say it should be a hot drink rather than ice water that many Americans drink with meals. Perhaps you should drink before eating so that you can't eat as much and then have some water available while eating and then drink more after eating. It is good to drink a lot.

I think we need different measure of water depending what we eat and our life of living. There is no right no wrong how much water you should consume or not. Your individual transpiration has to do about how much water you should drink. do you have a need for water drink it. If you do not drink enough water your intestines are not going to be well. Water is cleasing your body.

true, because the water is the best cleanser, and it only watered down the acid found inside the stomach responsible for food digestions....

I don't know what your father's reason is for telling you that. Maybe he just want you to eat well because I have known that drinking while eating fills you and you tend to eat less food. This is what many weight watchers do so that they can't eat a lot. But some people just like drinking while eating. My four-year old girl does that all the time. She drinks while having meals. I am really interested to know if this could be could or not (if we don't talk about weight loss). Because I am also concerned if it does any harm whatsoever.

yes. water makes your stomach full. i think its okay to drink at least 2 glasses of water during meals. it doesnt matter how much you take. its up to you . but for those people who are in diet, they take 1 glass of water before eating meals , so they will get easily full and dont take much food.

Different people have different opinions. When I eat some food I always drink! So let's say it's good for our body!

There are many things said about the way we drink water and how much to drink etc. Personally, I ignore them all. All my life I have always drank water or tea with a meal, and I know people who don't because they think it is bad for them and so will feel thirsty after a meal rather than get a drink! I just point out that I always drink if I am thirsty -sometime I will drink a lot of water during the day and sometimes I won't. I think sometimes that there is too much advice going around about what we can do naturally. Often each piece of that advice contradicts each other. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong if you just listen to your inner feelings, for they rarely lie. _Derek

I think your Father in law is right. I often try not to drink too much water while eating because it make me feel full already. I really find it difficult to move my body. Drinking water while eating is for us to be able to eat well. Sometimes there are food which we find difficult to push inside our throat so we need water to help us push the food inside. But too much water will make us feel bad because our stomach will accommodate the water, thereby occupying the space that should have been for our food. In that case we will not be able to eat all the food that was on our plate. Eating slowly is also helpful so that to avoid drinking water very often while eating. Chewing the food very well will lessen the water consumption since the food was already soft and cut into pieces so its easy to push it inside our throat down the esophagus up to the stomach.

i think your father is correct. if we drink a lot of water while we are eating then we feel full immediately and then we will not be able to eat a lot since our stomach space is already filled with water. lister to your father.

Yes drinking a lot of water while having food is not advisable but one can have in small quantity. Around half an hour after having food, one should drink half to one litre of water. Yes, due to having more water, ones food intake reduces and even digestion doesn't happen properly. So my suggestion would be to avoid having water while eating completely, if not possible restrict water intake to as little as possible.

hi:) I think its better to drink more water than those who don't,as water cleans our system, but maybe if its too much then also not good. as for me I drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday, on the morning before i take breakfast I drink one glass because they said it can help with digestions, and before I sleep I make it a point that I drink one glass also because they said it can help to avoid nightmare. and the rest I drink between and after meals.
