I am a non native US resident.Though I can speak English properly, the problem with me is that I cannot understand the accent properly sometimes.I came from a very small city in India.I have also worked in offices in India. But there the accent of English is not as the same as here.As I came from a small city, the atmosphere is very homely there.we used to talk with our friends, relatives and collegues in our native language. There people are very down to earth and unprofessional, informal.
I came here 1 year before, but my interactional skills have not improve much.I am very talktive and I can easily like to interact with people. Please share your views so thatI can improve my interactinal skills.

Keep talking to people.
In time, you'll slowly come to understand what people are saying and you wont notice accents.
In time, your language skills will improve as well. If you can, find some conversational English programs, I've heard about them, but am not sure where you'd find them. This will also help you.
Your writing skills are pretty good considering the fact that you haven't been in an English speaking/writing environment for too long. But this will improve as well in time.
Just keep posting here and responding to discussions and you'll pick it up quickly.

Thanks for your positive response.I have done Masters in English Literature from India.I think that reflects in my writting. But whenever it comes at talking or any conversation with the native citizens I get it mess up totally.

Even those of us whose native language is English will mess up from time to time. Don't worry about that one, you will learn from your mistakes as you make them.

I am trying hard to learn.I dont know how I can improve that because I am very careless and inattentive.I am simply a bad learner.

I think the best way to improve your oral is talking with native US resident. You can the foreign teacher's assistant. That can increase your opportunity to interact with US resident.

It only sounds difficult at first. But if you get used to hearing it and if you often talk to these people sooner or later you will realize that you are actually understanding them easily. Don't worry because it will only take a little time. Then things will be easy. Just get your ears ready all the time so you could listen well.

Your suggestion helped me a lot. Some friends suggest me to listen the CNN Tv channel. But I couldn't completely make out the meaning of the words. But if I watch any TV serial I understand many words.Trying to improve myself.
